Prepare for Ukrainian Easter with us- learn new vocabulary!

Easter (Великдень) is one of the most meaningful holidays in Ukraine — a time when families come together, traditions come alive, and hope feels especially strong.

The night begins with a special church service, where people bring beautifully prepared baskets filled with p***a (traditional Easter bread), eggs, cheese, and other food to be blessed.

One of the most iconic symbols is the pysanka — intricately decorated eggs, each pattern carrying deep meaning, from protection to new life.

After the service, families gather at home, greet each other with “Христос воскрес!” — “Воістину воскрес!” and share a festive meal.

But beyond traditions, Easter in Ukraine is about resilience, renewal, and belief in the future — something that feels especially powerful today.
