We keep hearing it in hospitality: "nobody wants to go the extra mile anymore."
After a year of research plus years on the floor, here's what I actually think is happening.
COVID gave people time to think. And thinking is dangerous for an industry built on climbing a ladder nobody questioned. People got distracted by the noise, mistook "career" for identity, and never asked what they actually wanted.. until everything stopped and they finally could.
So yes, wellbeing is suddenly everywhere. Not a coincidence.
But here's the part we keep dodging: the "generational gap" excuse is BS. Every generation said this about the one before. The real question isn't "which generation are you" but these:
Do you know how to actually communicate with the person next to you?
Do you know what drives them?
Why they chose this industry at all?
We're obsessed with long-term contracts, like loyalty = duration.
⚠️Wrong.
What matters is someone giving 100%!
for an hour, a shift, a year, a lifetime. Doesn't matter. Full presence matters.
And attitude can be taught. I believe that with everything I've got, it's why I keep showing up to teach.
Agree? Disagree? Tell me below. I'm not saying this alone, I want to hear from you.
