“How to support staff who are experiencing a mental health problem”

Following on from Monday’s World Mental Health Day, we feel this resource from Mind is very well worth a share.

https://my.mtr.cool/lwnvfurypi

It covers:

• How to create a culture that supports staff to be open about their mental health

• How to have a conversation with someone about their mental health

• How to support someone experiencing a mental health problem

• How to manage an employee’s time off sick and their return to work

Here at The Wellbeing Games we are huge admirers and supporters of the Mental Health Foundation and World Mental Health Day.

The theme this year is all about prioritising mental health and wellbeing. So we’ve linked to their best mental health tips, because as they say about mental health care:

“It’s a bit like brushing your teeth every day – important in preventing problems.”

👇 You may know some of these tips for better mental health and some may be new to you, but either way, we think you should have a read and take time to build a routine of preventative care for your mental health.

Make time for yourself.

Make your mental health a priority.

The Wellbeing Games unites your team in wellness. It’s a healthy talking point and it helps you build healthy habits into your lifestyle easily and effectively.

Over a two-week programme, you and your team partake in easily achievable but effective challenges in our 5 key areas of wellbeing:

• Movement
• Connection
• Nutrition
• Sleep
• Mindfulness

We have analysed extensive research to bring to users a balance of basic activities they can complete each day without too much effort or difficulty.

These activities bring you wellbeing learning, help you build healthy habits and importantly, we make it fun so that it doesn’t feel like a chore.

Participants are responding positively and enjoying the impetus to invest in their own wellbeing and grow personally.

We’re receiving great feedback and users have reported a whopping 75% increase in workplace wellbeing.

At The Wellbeing Games we unite your team in the common goal of wellbeing and we encourage open conversation in a psychologically safe environment – without putting any individual on the spot.

Can your employees openly and without judgement or fear of resentment say “My mental health is not great today, I need to press pause” or “I’m really struggling here and I need your support.”?

At The Wellbeing Games we believe that this level of openness in a psychologically safe environment should be the norm.

We want teams that communicate and support each other through good and bad days without being in a working situation that negatively impacts them when they do so.

Do you have structures and initiatives in place to really support your employees at this level?

Learning to let go of the things we can’t or don’t need to control is a big lesson for us all.

❤️ Can you relate?

It’s all very well having a workplace wellbeing initiative in place, but if your employees are too overloaded to participate then it’s, frankly, as useful as a chocolate teapot.

With 86% of workers admitting they have “too much work” to enable them to move during the working day (*according to the HR News article linked below), workplaces need to transform from all angles.

So yes, get a wellbeing initiative or platform in place (ahem.. The Wellbeing Games!) but ensure that you have a workplace wellbeing strategy in place that enforces equality throughout your organisation and ensures that everyone can take part.
