To apply for a UK Student visa (Student Route) as an international student, you must prepare and submit several key documents with your visa application. These help prove that you are eligible to study in the UK.
📋 Main Documents Required
1. Valid Passport or Travel Document
Must be current with at least one blank page. You’ll use it to show identity and travel history.
2. Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
A CAS letter and reference number from your UK university or college – this proves your offer of a place on a course.
3. Proof of Sufficient Funds
Bank statements or financial evidence showing you can pay tuition fees and living costs. There are specific requirements about amounts and how long the money must have been held (usually at least 28 consecutive days).
4. English Language Evidence
Your university may confirm you meet the English requirement on your CAS. Otherwise, you might need a Secure English Language Test (like IELTS) unless exempt.
5. Tuberculosis (TB) Test Results
If you’re from a country where a TB test is required, you must include the certificate.
🧑🎓 Additional Supporting Documents
Depending on your situation, you might also need:
• Proof of Qualifications
Certificates or transcripts, especially if studying below degree level, or listed on your CAS.
• ATAS Certificate
If your course requires Academic Technology Approval Scheme clearance (usually for certain science/technology subjects).
• Parental/Guardian Consent (if under 18)
Written consent and evidence of relationship (like a birth certificate) if you’re under 18.
• Translations
Any documents not in English or Welsh must be translated and certified.
🧾 Notes to Remember
• Some applicants from “low-risk” countries may not initially need to upload financial or qualification documents, but UK Visas & Immigration can ask for them later so it’s best to have everything ready.
• If you’re applying from outside the UK, you must submit these with your online application. If applying inside the UK to extend your visa, the same evidence applies but there are additional rules about academic progression.
