So EXCITED!
This was my first LOVE when I started st Reigate School of Art and Design on the ‘Calligraphy, Gilding and Heraldic Art Course in 1999!
Fabriano Atristico. I LOVE this paper. Now it comes in a pad. I used to buy a pack of A2 sheets and had to cut them down.
Tomorrow I start the tests with my PAScribe Hamburg Inks. I know the inks are going to LOVE being applied to this paper.
It is a little larger than my A4 Lining Template, but the template can accommodate it easily.
Will make a video which will live in the free course on the inks in the PAScribe Scriptorium
Thanks to Fabriano for sending this on. So happy.

As we get through the alphabet, the complexity of the letters increase. The quill makes quick work of this.

Getting hairlines out of a quill is an absolute joy.
The quill can easily write a page of text but by now I would want resharpwn the nib so I can get super sharp hairlines.

By the time I began the second line, I was really enjoying the sharpness of the quill.
Filling with the brush rather than dipping adds to the slowness of the experience.

Getting into the Majuscules.
So wonderful to write with a quill. The kinds of lines you can pull out of a quill is truly magical.

I cut this quill so the nib is 2mm. That meant the xheight is 6nib widths. Lines are ruled at 6mm intervals.
Mapping out the minuscule ‘a’ first then 3 nib widths above that for the Majuscules.
The quill is nice and sharp allowing for crisp edges and sharp lines.

Before you can start writing you need sharpen your quill knife on an Arkansas stone. You need to knife to be super sharp so it cuts the quill with absolute precision.
I got both from John Neal. Pester them for one each. You can also get your quills from them.
My first Arkansas Stone came from Cornelissen’s. I’ll never forget the day I first got one.
