On cloud nine! Congratulations to Year 11 on their fantastic GCSE results, which have set new records at QE.

More than two-thirds of all GCSEs (68%) were awarded level 9 - the highest possible grade – while over 87% were at levels 9-8 and 97% at levels 9–7 (equivalent to the old A*–A grades). These figures reflect both the talent of our pupils and all the hard work they have put in during lessons and in their studies at home.

Our thanks to their supportive families and to all who have taught and inspired them to date. We are excited about what the boys will contribute, within and beyond the classroom, in the Sixth Form from September.

A spectacular reward for all their hard work - Congratulations to the Class of 2026 upon receiving their exceptional A-level results. With 62% of all grades at A* and some 98% at A*-B, they have utterly excelled. It was a joy to celebrate with students, parents and other family members at the culmination of seven years during which they have displayed not only their impressive intellect and myriad talents, but the good humour, mutual support and maturity that makes them such great company within our Elizabethan community.

Our leavers now progress to many of the world's best universities, with almost two-thirds of confirmed places to destinations ranked in the Top 10 globally. For anyone who didn't get what they needed for their preferred destination today, support remains available to help with future plans.

We look forward to keeping in touch with everyone as part of our QE Connect alumni community: you are all Elizabethans for life, and we are hugely proud of all that you have contributed and achieved.

Year 8 Bring 1001 Arabian Nights to Life! - Our Year 8 English students designed and created their own board games inspired by their study of the book ‘1001 Arabian Nights.’ A famous collection of Middle Eastern and Indian stories.

Using their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills, students developed a range of unique games, including:

• 3D-Printer Quest Game – Created by Hammad, Ishan, Agrim and Nathaniel, this game followed characters on an exciting quest to collect magical lamps and complete their adventure.
• Monopoly-Inspired Game – Players used Monopoly-style money to build armies and conquer lands in a strategic battle for victory.
• Hexagon Board Game – Featuring characters from 1001 Arabian Nights.

“What I enjoyed about this activity is that we made the game from our own ideas which we have brought together to make this board.” – William

As English teacher Panayiota Menelaou explains:
"My Year 8s designed board games inspired by their study of 1001 Arabian Nights. The class play-tested each other's games. This was a great opportunity to showcase the creative side of English, bringing together cross-curricular themes such as art, technology and robotics to consolidate learning while bringing the book to life."

Year 12 German Exchange Work Experience - Our Year 12 students had an incredible week in Germany, completing a range of work experience placements, including at a university, primary school, museum, dentist, hospital clinic and bank.

Throughout the week, they used their German in every day in real-world situations, building both their language skills and confidence.
Students stayed with their exchange partners and host families, having welcomed them to the UK back in March. Outside of work, there was plenty of time for socialising, exploring the local area and making lasting memories together.

A fantastic experience for everyone involved. Well done to all our students for embracing every opportunity!

An Outstanding Year of Music at QE - With lunchtime recitals, concerts, tours and community choirs our musicians across the school have entertained and delighted audiences in London, UK and overseas. The year culminated with the House Music competition - ‘House Music to the Movies’ which raised over £1,000 towards new music equipment. Congratulations to all students and staff involved; and to our music students who were recognised and celebrated with trophies and certificates for their talent and dedication to music at the House Assembly.

Celebrating Co-Curricular, Champions and Contenders for the House Cup – Our final House Assembly was a chance to celebrate an extraordinary year of achievement, opportunity and community at Queen Elizabeth's School.

This year, QE Flourish reached new heights with:
• 186 educational visits, trips and events
• 6,844 student places on enrichment activities
• 326 days of trips, competitions and experiences

A huge congratulations to our Chess B Team on reaching the finals and the Chess A Team, crowned National Schools' Chess Champions, and to award-winning drama, outstanding music, the inaugural Latin Translation Competition and outstanding community service through QE Together.

We also celebrated environmental initiatives, outdoor enrichment, Jack Petchey Award winners and the launch of our new QE Flourish Reporters. Our students have continued to flourish in every sense of the word.

As for the House Cup drum roll please…

Celebrating Success in the Junior Maths Challenge, Kangaroo and Olympiad - Following the success of our Intermediate and Senior Maths Olympiad students, QE's Year 7 and Year 8 mathematicians have continued the tradition with an outstanding set of results in the Junior Maths Olympiad.

Organised by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT), the Junior Maths Olympiad is an invitation-only competition for the highest-performing students from the Junior Maths Challenge, with around 1,200 students qualifying nationally each year. Competitors tackle a demanding two-hour paper featuring six Olympiad-style problems that test creativity, reasoning and perseverance.

Of the 62 QE students who took part: our prize winners achieved:

-5 Gold Medals: Giritrah Ghosh, Sasha Karunaratine, Adhruth Parlattaya, Noah Bai and Huy Bui

-7 Silver Medals: Siddhant Sharma, Ehan Islam, Anirvinn Lakshmipuran, Arjun Mulamalla, Duc Ta, Arthur Wang and Xuan Wu

-4 Bronze: Hercules Li, Ekansh Ponnaganti, Harry Xuan and Dhruv Srinath

Our medal winners each received a medal, certificate and a copy of 'A Problem Solver's Handbook' by Andrew Jobbings.

Kirtan Shah, Assistant Head of Maths said:
"We are incredibly proud of our entire Year 7 and 8 cohorts, who recently sat the Junior Maths Challenge. This competition is a wonderful opportunity to stretch our pupils and encourage them to embrace complex problem-solving.

Proving their mathematical stamina, several pupils successfully progressed to the follow-on rounds: the Junior Kangaroo and the prestigious Junior Maths Olympiad.

To have 16 of our students achieve medals in the Olympiad is an exceptional milestone so early in their mathematical journeys.

Given that the UKMT only awards medals to the top 200 scorers across the entire country - the top 40 gold, the next 60 silver and the next 100 bronze - this is a phenomenal, elite achievement.

Whether securing a national medal or tackling the very first round, every single pupil demonstrated tremendous perseverance, enthusiasm, and a willingness to embrace a challenge. Congratulations to everyone involved!"

QE Music Prague Concert Tour - Thirty pupils from Years 7–11, accompanied by Ruth Partington, Director of Music and Assistant Heads of Music, Caroline Grint and Jas Hutchinson-Bazely enjoyed an unforgettable concert tour to Prague.

During the visit, the group performed three concerts at the stunning venues of St Giles Church, Nymburk; Hartigova Church, Prague and St Nicholas Church, Prague.

Alongside their performances, pupils experienced some of Prague's most famous historic landmarks and attractions, including: Prague Castle; Petřín Tower; Prague Old Town and Charles Bridge; Prague Zoo; Prague State Opera and Vyšehrad.

The tour provided an excellent opportunity for pupils to develop their musical skills, perform for international audiences, and immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of the Czech capital. It was a memorable experience that showcased the talent, dedication, and enthusiasm of our young musicians.

QE Awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag! - We are delighted to announce that QE has been awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag, recognising our commitment to sustainability and environmental education.

At the heart of this achievement is our thriving allotment, which serves as a living classroom in the Barnet community. Through hands-on learning, students are developing a deeper understanding of community growing, biodiversity, organic food production, plastic pollution, and other key environmental issues.

By encouraging students to think globally and act locally, our sustainability curriculum equips them to make a meaningful difference both within school and beyond.

The award recognises our successful completion of the Eco-Schools Seven Steps framework, which empowers young people to lead positive environmental change in their schools, local communities, and the wider world.

Adding to this success, we are also proud to have progressed from the Royal Horticultural Society's School Gardening Award Level 1 to Level 2. Alongside a digital certificate and logo, we have received a £50 National Garden Gift Voucher, which will support the continued development of our allotment.

Congratulations to all the students and staff who have contributed to this fantastic achievement, including Maths Teacher Nadeem Kydd and Biology teachers Gillian Ridge and Dr Sam Acors for their dedication and enthusiasm in driving the project forward.

Year 10 Geographers Explore the Surrey Hills! - Our Year 10 boys recently enjoyed a series of fantastic Geography field trips to Juniper Hall in the beautiful Surrey Hills, helping them prepare for their AQA GCSE Geography Paper 3 exam next year.

Across three visits in early June, students gained valuable first-hand experience of geographical fieldwork by collecting and analysing real-world data in both urban and river environments.

Day 1: Investigating Leatherhead
The boys explored whether Leatherhead is thriving as a town centre or showing signs of decline, carrying out a range of fieldwork including:
Mapping land use
Footfall counts
Environmental quality surveys
Public questionnaires
Back at Juniper Hall, they analysed their findings using the centre's excellent facilities before staying overnight, ready for another day of investigation.

Day 2: River Studies
Students headed to the River Tillingbourne to investigate downstream changes and test the Bradshaw Model. They measured river velocity, channel shape, channel efficiency and river load, collecting data that they will later analyse back at school using Microsoft 365 and ArcGIS.

Despite some challenging weather—including torrential rain on the first trip—the boys showed outstanding resilience, enthusiasm and teamwork throughout.

Head of Geography, Mr Butler, said:
"The boys worked extremely hard throughout the fieldwork, often in challenging conditions. Juniper Hall provided the perfect base for our work, ensuring the boys are thoroughly prepared for their GCSE assessment while offering a spectacular environment in which to learn."

Mr Butler also thanked Mr Kane, Mr Bartlett, Mrs Macdonald and Mr Lawson for their invaluable support across the visits.
A brilliant experience that combined academic challenge, practical investigation and unforgettable outdoor learning. Well done to all involved!
