✨Summer is the ideal time to work on developing Study skills✨

Just completed two sessions with soon to be Year 8s pupils on digestion.

In two sessions, we covered
➡️mind maps
➡️flashcards
➡️use of colour to make it easier to memorise
➡️using different sources to create the revision material
➡️practised summarising the key points
➡️talked about the different type of memories

Next stop - how to use the revision material effectively when revising

Today’s booster sessions are all about transformations and more specifically the dreaded enlargement! 📐 🖍️ ✏️

Lots of grid paper, drawings and trying to chunk this into manageable steps that those two pupils can remember during their exams.

To achieve this, they create cards with their own words to describe the steps, alongside worked out examples. 📝

When revising, they are encouraged to verbalise the steps and/or write them as this will increase their chances of recall under stress during exams.

✨Summer booster sessions✨

Not one but two booster sessions focusing on fractions today!

Used lots of concrete resources to support those two pupils who find fractions challenging

Covered two different skills within this topic
➡️ equivalent fractions and simplying fractions
➡️ converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers and back

Followed by a dyslexia baseline assessment with a young pupil using hands on magnetic letters to spell single words and colourful pictures to support free writing assessment with a few processing and problem solving games in between each tasks.

We had fun today practising Pythagoras by solving a challenge.

Review of addition and subtraction with plenty of exchanging and hands on equipment available if needed.

We also used whiteboard with squares to help line up the digits properly especially when they are trying to trick us with different numbers of digits!!

And practised spotting 0 used as place holders.

Practised using a ‘jumping line’ to help crossing the boundaries when taking away - always a tricky skill.

And applied it to word problems
