PICKING UP LENGTH‼️
A batters first job is to pick up the length of the ball as quick as they can to be able to execute the correct stroke.
Picking up length is at time quite hard depending on bowlers actions, light conditions, distractions and your inner thoughts. However, it all comes down to 1️⃣ important rule “Watch the Ball.”
Watching the ball as closely as you can allows your body to react quicker since the eye sends a brain a message before your brain sends that message across to the other parts of your body.
Common mistakes with picking up length
❌ Premeditating the bowlers delivery
❌ Taking your eye off the ball (Blinking)
❌ Not watching the ball from the hand
❌ Not getting eyes level at Bowlers release
In order to make yourself as effective as possible in picking up length ensure the following :-
✅ Balanced and comfortable Stance
✅ Eyes level at Point of Release
✅ Watch the bowlers hand
✅ Play the ball as you see it
Remember, if you have made an error in judgement that did not lead to a wicket, you have another chance.
So, wash that out your system and focus on the next ball because that is the most important delivery!
