Anyone catch West World?
So my algorithm is pretty wild these days.
“A woman shaped thing.”
Sorry a what?
The Guardian published an article this week looking at the rapidly growing s*x doll industry and how AI is changing it.
We’re no longer talking about a lump of silicone in the shape of perfect v@gina.
These dolls can have customisable personalities, conversations, memory, s*xual responses and even faces created to resemble real women. And apparently, fake bruises are part of this world too.
That’s where this gets really uncomfortable for me.
We spend enormous amounts of time talking about violence against women. Consent. Respect. Teaching boys that women are human beings with boundaries, autonomy and the right to say no.
Then technology creates an increasingly realistic imitation of a woman who can never say no.
The doll obviously cannot experience violence. She isn’t human. But the person practising the behaviour is. And before someone screams, “Where’s the evidence?”, there isn’t enough research yet to say s*x dolls cause violence against women.
Fair.
But I’m more interested in what we’re normalising long before we can measure the consequences of it.
A female body you can buy, customise, bruise, degrade and have programmed to respond exactly how you want.
No rejection. No boundaries. No consent required.
Tell me I’m being dramatic, but I cannot see how we spend decades fighting the objectification of women and then shrug our shoulders at this. Women for years have been satisfied with a d***o yet men need a fully plastic woman..
I find it fu***ng disturbing.
When do to they launch the artificial wombs? (Sarcastic but not impossible)
