About Us
Wanderers of Colour is a people of colour (POC) led grassroots collective based in the UK, with members across the globe. We committed to social justice through: increasing access and participation within the outdoors and travelling, and an increased understanding of the systematic issues within these. Our Mission
To create a community for people of colour interested in travel, living abroad, and outdoor adventurous activities that centres our experiences in an empowering, educational, and intersectional way. To increase the number of people of colour who access the outdoors and travel through developing necessary skills and knowledge, and organising group activities to increase confidence and motivation.

“Being part of the WoC climbing community has always felt welcoming no matter your ability.”

Words by our beautiful attendees ❤️👏
Motion by Alfred Hudson-Chang

“I love nature and being outside. I had only bouldered inside before the festival and loved (although humbling) bouldering outside.“

“I live on the Peak district doorstop and feel like I now can get out there after being shown.”

“I discovered there’s something special in being able to share and discuss experiences with POC.”

“It has given me community and introduced me to climbing outdoors, so I feel like I could go out on my own / with other wanderers now!”

“WoC has given me an inclusive and supportive community where I feel comfortable doing what I love, especially when it comes to the outdoors.”

“I’ve always dreamt of climbing outdoors and now I’ve done it, so you all literally made one of my dreams come true!”

“I felt connected with everyone at Wanderers in a different way to my predominantly white climbing friends.”

“WoC has given me the opportunity to explore places that I would never had thought to step into and meet people who have become friends and mentors.”

“The range of ages across attendees was a surprise to me, I loved it.”

“The festival exceeded my expectations (I already knew it was going to be amazing!)”

“I also truly appreciated the instructors and teachers who made the courses so interactive, fun and informative.”

“The community is truly a blessing.”

“I love the outdoors and craved more community. I am mixed race so never felt like I fit in, but I felt right at home at the Wanderer’s festival.”

“I came for the cool climbing opportunity, but left with great memories of the friends and connections I had with everyone.”

Squeezing every bit that we can out of the festival weekend, Sunday started off with Iwa-do meditation and poetry guided by Ashima Shiraishi , giving us a fresh perspective on the familiar plantation boulders. Over at horseshoe quarry, Rock and Sun instructor Trevor Massiah shared insights on fear of falling in sport climbing for a handful of brave wanderers looking to push their limit! And with that, another flurry of a festival is over all too soon!

There’s no way our amazing volunteer team could have put on a festival with a lineup like this without our partners. SATURDAY 🙌

From a blissful hike through the wondrous area surrounding Thornbridge, to learning to lead on the stunning gritstone outcrop of Stanage, our family had a range of choice to bask themselves in the beauty of the peaks.

The day rounded off with a dusk time panel chat with some of our festivals guest speakers and the incredible team behind it all. 🥳❤️
