Even with the best of intentions, all of your meals prepped and a routine put together by an AI executive assistant, sometimes life just gets in the way 🤖 🤷🏻♂️
As a father of two young kids, I completely get it. Some days/weeks/months it’s not just hard, it’s impossible to do everything you want to get done 🫠 💤
Let me reassure you that nobody nails it all the time and that sometimes self care is more hygge than HIIT 🧘 ☕️
Define things that make you feel like you and shoehorn them in when possible. For me, that’s listening to French or Italian audiobooks when I’m alone in the car, or playing my favourite music when I’m cooking in the kitchen 👨🏼🍳 🎶

Something to think about 🧐

TRUE: Bodybuilding exercises will enlarge your muscles (but usually at the expense of how well you move) 💪 ❌
USEFUL: What we call muscles sit within slings made up of other muscles and connective tissue. These are meant to work together. Train these intelligently and you can look good, feel good and move well 💪 ✅

Think the opposite of ‘out of sight out of mind’. Whatever you want to implement, put it in the space you spend most of your free time. Whatever tempts you into wasting your free time needs to be sold or at least put in a faraway cupboard.

I have lost clients because I speak my mind. I have clients who are very successful in their professional lives and are used to calling the shots. I get that. But I have had to tell some of these people that we can’t train today. ‘Why can’t we train today?’ they ask. Because you just took a load of painkillers in order to get you through this session and I don’t believe you are listening to me. I had a client refuse to give up behaviours that routinely caused her serious pain. She’s a CEO. She is used to winning. She saw cutting anything out of her routine as a defeat. She shouted at me, called me unprofessional and demanded I pay her back for her block of sessions when I said I thought she should take a step back and look at how she was treating her body.
I would do it again in a heartbeat.
I am not the sort of PT who is going to ask the client ‘what do you want to do today?’ unless the client can make a really informed decision about what might be beneficial. Doing a generic legs session today because yesterday was ‘upper body pull day’ at the gym is not my idea of a particularly informed decision. I’m not here to be your gym buddy and to walk you through a routine you could find online in a couple of taps. I’m here to provide expertise that you don’t have and guidance to get you to where you can’t get to on your own. I will give my advice and opinions on your lifestyle and diet, because my job is not to pander to you and massage your ego, it’s to get you to where I believe you can get to. Which is very probably beyond what you can imagine for yourself. And that might be difficult for you, but that’s why you’re not doing this alone. You’re doing it with me. Trust the process.

Seize the day. Every day 🦅 💪
Here’s a rough plan 👉
1) Start by getting rid of the bad habits in your life. This will give you a sense of ownership. And you don’t have to shout about it from the rooftops or tread on anyone’s toes. It is a private, but very powerful action to take.
2) Kicking bad habits creates space. With this extra time, adopt healthier habits. Get into a routine centred around your health and growth. A nutrient-rich diet, quality sleep, time outdoors, exercise and time away from tech.
3) Use this new strength, energy and your newly organised mind to take on the world. Be the person you always wanted to be. You have created the environment to make it happen. Own it. Live it.
