📚 National Reading Day 2026 – Dziady by Adam Mickiewicz
On Saturday, 5 September 2026, Poland will once again come together for Narodowe Czytanie (National Reading Day) — a nationwide initiative celebrating Polish literature and encouraging people to experience it together in public spaces.
This year marks the 15th edition of the initiative, and the featured work is Dziady (Forefathers’ Eve) by Adam Mickiewicz, one of the most important works in Polish literature and a cornerstone of Polish cultural identity.
Dziady is much more than a literary masterpiece. It is a work deeply connected with Polish history, traditions and national memory, bringing together the past and the future and providing a space for reflection on the values and experiences that have shaped Polish society.
🏫 Schools, libraries, cultural centres, educational institutions and other organisations across Poland and abroad are invited to join this special celebration by organising public readings and cultural events.
This year's edition also offers an opportunity to discover the history of performances of Dziady through a small exhibition presented in front of the Belweder, while selected fragments of the work are being made available as an audiobook on the official National Reading YouTube channel.
