Apprenticeships are fundamental to fixing the foundations of the economy, filling skills gaps and driving growth.

This National Apprenticeship Week the government is introducing measures to make choosing some apprenticeships easier by reducing the minimum duration from 12 months to 8 months. This flexibility will fast-track the skills our country needs and and deliver greater flexibility for employers and learners.

We have also announced the new leadership team for Skills England, which will work with employers, national, regional and local government, providers, and unions to identify skills shortages and provide strong strategic direction. The new chair, former Cisco CEO Phil Smith, will offer extensive industry experience in digital, tech and innovation leadership.
