Meet Arwa Majayda - our communications expert and translator, joining the Return to Palestine team.

Arwa holds a BA in Linguistics and English Literature, and studied with Dr. Hanan Habashi and the late Dr. Refaat Alareer.

Since January 2026, Arwa has been working closely with our cast and creative team to support how our stories travel into English. Return to Palestine was created in Palestine in Arabic, and Arwa has been a vital part of the translation and communication process - helping us hold onto the nuance, clarity, and emotional truth of the original work while strengthening how we share it with wider audiences.

Arwa has survived the genocide, and despite everything, she has consistently found the time, care, and strength to support this work - holding our team and our stories with extraordinary generosity. Having evacuated from Gaza last week, she has arrived in London to begin an MSc in Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London, on scholarship - and to finally work with us in person, not online!
Alongside her studies, Arwa continues to support her family in Gaza, and she is currently sharing a fundraiser - please see the LINK IN BIO to support.

Meet Alexander Bittar - British-Lebanese actor and new cast member joining Return to Palestine to play Jad.

A LAMDA graduate, Alexander comes from a Lebanese diaspora family with roots across Senegal, Nigeria, Singapore, and Switzerland. Raised across different parts of the world, he brings a distinctly global perspective to his work - shaped by movement between cultures, languages, and ways of belonging.

An artist with many strings to his bow, Alexander loves creating work from the ground up. He wrote, directed, and performed in Drop Dead at the Edinburgh Fringe, and performed in the concert Les Enchanteurs at Théâtre Sorano in Dakar. His storytelling is driven by a deep curiosity for identity, belonging, and the stories we inherit.

He is delighted to be part of Return to Palestine and to be playing Jad.

We have been busy. But play is work and work is play. Serious play. Play to not be missed!

This Autumn there are some unique chances to come and see, witness, connect with work I have been doing.

- My clown workshop open class will be on the 12th September. It’s 2 hours of live improv with the clowns that have been practicing in my workshop for a week. Come and bring a friend - be prepared to be surprised!

- we are bringing The Freedom Theatre’s Return to Palestine again to London - this time at the Pleasance. This physical storytelling piece filled with Palestinian clowning is based on true stories shared with us. It is part of the biggest Palart Festival we have ever produced - the biggest celebration of Palestinian identity and excellence ever showed in London.

- Fringe First winner The Bridge with alaashehada_ directed by funnysidecollective at the Bush Theatre from 23rd October to 11th November. What a pleasure and honour to work with them on the movement, clowning and characters in this show.

I’m so proud to share that Ala’a Shehada’s new show The Bridge has won a Fringe First Award. I had the honour of working on the movement direction for this piece, and I’m genuinely grateful to have been part of the process - and to help make space for these stories to be seen, heard, and felt.

The Bridge holds the story of the Karmah bridge named by the occupation as Allenby Bridge: the only route through which Palestinians can travel to connect to the rest of the world. A single passage point that becomes a system - a bottleneck of Israeli apartheid by design. A kind of clogged vein, continually tightened; a life-line repeatedly strangled by Israeli occupation, with the collaboration of Jordan designed by the British mandate.

This award matters recognises artistry, and the importance of political storytelling that refuses to be softened. There is also so much clowning in this show, and I’m proud of the precision and play inside it: finding the games of these characters, bringing life alive on stage, and building a language that can hold both humour and resistance.

My commitment remains the same: to keep putting forward work that is inherently political, humanising, and impact-driven - work that, in some small or large way, helps change the world.

Say: “oooh” (with curiosity).
Then choose one sense and follow what pulls you - just for a few seconds.
