💡 Quick Summary – Student Finance at a Glance for British/EU and Home student's
Student Finance England (SFE) helps with:

🎓 Tuition Fees: £6,935–£9,535 per year
💰 Maintenance Loan:

Up to £13,348/year for London-based students
Up to £10,544/year for universities outside London

📉 Repayment:

You begin repaying only if you earn over £25,000/year.

You’ll pay back 9% of anything above that threshold.

Example:

Earning £33,000/year → Pay back £60/month
Earning £27,000/year → Pay back £15/month

❗ Questions: Often, students ask me about Student Finance: When do they need to start repaying the loan? How much interest will be charged?

✅Answer:
You start repaying your loan from the April after you finish or leave your course, as long as your income is above £25000 or high enough.

Secondly, 40 years after that April, any remaining loan balance will be automatically wiped (cancelled) by Student Finance.
You do not need to finish paying it off—the debt simply ends ❗

Third, the interest rate is 9%.

Example:

Suppose you finish your course in June 2030.

You become “first due to repay” in April 2031.

Count 40 years from April 2031 → the loan will be cancelled in April 2071, even if you haven’t fully repaid it.

❗❗Who is eligible?

British citizens, Individuals with Settled or Pre-settled status, refugees, and asylum seekers (subject to specific conditions).

Your repayments will be taken out of your salary at the same time as tax and National Insurance if you’re an employee. Your payslips will show how much has been deducted.

🚨 Important Update for UK Student & Graduate Visa Applicants! 🇬🇧

The UK government has announced major changes to the Student and Graduate Route visa rules — here’s what you need to know:

📅 Effective 11 November 2025

* Higher Maintenance Funds Required:

London: £1,529/month (up to 9 months → £13,761)
Outside London: £1,171/month (up to 9 months → £10,539)
Accommodation offset (if paid in advance): up to £1,529.

📅 Effective 1 January 2027

* Graduate Route Duration Reduced:

- For Bachelor’s & Master’s graduates: from 2 years → 18 months.
- For PhD / Doctoral graduates: remains 3 years.

👉 These changes mean that students planning to study in the UK will need to revise their financial planning and post-study career strategies accordingly.

UKVI will raise the maintenance requirement for international students beginning of January 2, 2025. For studies in London, you must demonstrate £1483/month, and for study outside of London, £1136/month.
