π Happy Rakhi / Raksha Bhandan to everybody celebrating today π
Rakhi/ Raksha Bhandan is a celebration of the love and bond siblings have for one another. Traditionally the Rakhi string, once tied, symbolised a brother protecting his sister throughout their lifetime. This tradition has remained, and developed to be a celebration of both sisters and brothers.
At Smilers, we made some Rakhis using lots of different materials π

We had an amazing day celebrating our 'Class of 2021'. This year has been a turbulent one where our children have had to adapt to lots of changes, and they took it in their stride, becoming more resilient along the way. We are so proud of all our Smilers children and wish them the best of luck in the next chapter of their lives.

As we reach the end of term, we have been overwhelmed by the amount of kindness we have received from our Smilers parents and carers. It has been a difficult year to navigate and we have could not have done it without your support. A big thank you to our Smilers team, parents, carers and children, for making this year a super one! π«βοΈ

Yesterday, the children went on a nature walk to spot how much wildlife they could see. They then created a tally chart and added up their findings. There was a lot of discussion about all the animals they spotted and it was clear that the most sighted animals were the ducks π¦π¦’

We are so lucky to have such amazing parents and children at Smilers and we are always sad when they leave. The emails and cards we receive always remind us of the hard work and efforts of our team and how our number one priority is the high level of care for our children. Thank you to Aayah's parents for the kind words we received below:
βBeing first- time parents with Aayah we were really nervous about putting her into nursery at such a young age and leaving her with strangers. We saw a few nurseries in the area and I was totally put off and decided not send her to nursery. Then we came across Smilers a few months down the line & when we visited the nursery we felt drawn to it and knew it would be perfect for Aayah. A year and a half along we can honestly say the Smilers team have well & truly exceeded our expectations of a nursery. Aayah has really grown & developed being there and she really enjoys it. She will really miss the nursery.
As parents of Aayah we wanted to thank you from the bottom of our heart for not only being amazing teachers to Aayah but also making us as parents very comfortable with sending our precious daughter to strangers, who are now like family.
You have set the bar high, making our search in Slough for a nursery a lot tougher.β

Puthandu also know as Puthuvarudam or Tamil new year, is the first day of the year on the Tamil calendar and traditionally celebrated as a festival.
Homes are decorated with flowers and these are known as a Chitra. πΊπΌπ΅πΈ
Smilers marked the Tamil new year by creating their own Chitra by placing some flowers into water. When the flowers start wilting they are put into a river or pond.
