Mother’s Day in Chinese is 母亲节 🌸

In China, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May, just like in many countries around the world, including the USA, Australia, and Canada.

In the UK, Mother’s Day is traditionally celebrated earlier in the year on Mothering Sunday, while in France, La Fête des Mères is celebrated later, usually on the last Sunday of May. It is a wonderful way to explore how different cultures celebrate family traditions across the world.

At hihilulu, we believe language learning becomes even more meaningful when children can connect words to special moments and celebrations.

Learning Chinese through real-life traditions and family celebrations helps children build confidence, curiosity, and cultural understanding in a fun and memorable way.

"What began as a personal mission to help her twin daughters, Hila and Luna, learn Chinese joyfully while growing up in France."

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the care and determination of mothers who are working to support their child’s education.
"It soon grew into something far more impactful. With an engineer’s logic, a marketer’s insight, and a mother’s instinct, she founded hihilulu—a platform built not to simplify the language, but to unlock it."

Today, hihilulu continues that mission by supporting families at home. Through interactive lessons, engaging stories, and practical resources, parents can confidently guide their children’s learning in a way that feels natural, enjoyable, and part of everyday life.

What challenges are you facing while introducing or expanding your school’s Mandarin language programme?
During our recent English webinar, we welcomed schools from South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya to explore the future of Mandarin provision in education.
The majority of schools shared that they are still in the exploration stage, highlighting that many decision makers are currently navigating key barriers to implementation.
Our follow-up polling revealed the most significant challenges schools face, including teacher shortages, budget constraints and curriculum integration. These are exactly the areas where hihilulu is designed to provide practical support and scalable solutions.
In comparison, our French webinar showed student engagement as the primary challenge, suggesting clear regional differences in priorities and needs.
Finally, most schools indicated a preference for Mandarin delivery through after-school clubs, with some also interested in online teaching models.
These insights help us continue to shape accessible, engaging and effective Mandarin learning solutions for schools globally.

We believe that AI is transforming Chinese learning by making language education more intelligent, immersive, and personalised for every child.

At hihilulu, we are combining artificial intelligence with Professor Joël Bellassen’s dual structure approach to help learners naturally progress from components to characters, characters to words, and words to meaningful sentences.

Technical Director Ping Zhang shares how hihilulu’s evolving AI-powered knowledge base is helping shape the future of Chinese learning through authentic language structures, adaptive learning pathways, and immersive dialogue experiences.
