kirstybrunker.com ☆☆ Self-Belief Nurturer ☆☆

When you don't believe in yourself, you become dependent on others to believe in you. I think the f**k not.

For people who are tired of living a life based on other people's expectations and values: let's ditch the shoulds and start putting as much effort into making ourselves happy as we do into keeping others happy!
Your individuality is distorted and dulled to conform to other people's values and beliefs. Your sense of who you are quietly slips away...no matter how busy you are, or how much you achieve, you find yourself feeling adrift and directionless...

But does the world need a bunch of acquiescent, conformist clones? The greatest gift you have to offer is that utterly unique combination of genes, qualities and experiences that is you. So I support self-doubting introverts to get to know, like and trust themselves, so that they can let go of fear of judgement, express who they are, and shine their unique light.

“Never give up.”

“Don’t be a quitter.”

“Nothing worth having comes easy.”

“You didn’t come this far just to give up.”

We hear these things a lot and they often seem really positive and motivational.

❓But in this episode we’re questioning whether it’s true that we should NEVER give up - after all, even Churchill recognised that there’s an important caveat to “never give up”...

So, why not grab a cuppa and a biscuit or six and join us to find out more?🫖🍪

This week’s question is a tad predictable, but maybe your answers won’t be…

What in your life would you like to give up on, and what stops you?🤔

Coffee and cake in the sunshine by the sea😊

None of life’s problems have gone away, but some places and moments make it easier to quieten your mind, don’t they?

Our brains can link a mental or emotional state to a location, if the state is experienced intensely or frequently enough in that location.

It’s why certain places cause us to relax the moment we’re there, and it’s also why we so often get ideas for resolving a work problem shortly after leaving the desk where we’ve spent hours being stuck on the problem.

I’m lucky enough to be having a week away in a beautiful country cottage: the morning after arriving I finally started a project I’ve spent weeks failing to find the right energy or motivation for at home.

Being able to achieve such a complete change of location isn’t always possible, of course, but the good news is that it doesn’t necessarily have to be a big change to break the link (although if you have the means to try a complete change, go for it!). It could look like going to a coffee shop, or to a different room, or moving to a different seat.

Worth a try, right?

PS Please note the very deliberate absence of any commitment to finishing the long procrastinated-over project. There’s a difference between growing your ability to (sometimes) successfully act on insights and having a magic wand.

PPS Spoiler alert: there are no magic wands. Just keep doing what you can and be gentle with yourself if it goes t**s up, as it sometimes (ok, probably quite often!) will. It’s the best anyone can do, right?

🎺🔇If you don’t like blowing your own trumpet, or other people blowing theirs, then this week’s Mission Imperfect could be perfect for you!

We’re exploring what makes so many of us so uncomfortable with the idea of talking about our achievements - and challenging it.

This episode’s question for you to ponder is: what are you proud of that you don’t tell people you’re proud of?

And if you want to share it, we’d love to hear it and celebrate it with you!

So why not grab a cuppa and a biscuit or six and join us?🫖🍪
