Having a nurse complete my online Post-Operative Aftercare Course and give such positive feedback means a great deal to me.

When someone already comes with a clinical background, an understanding of anatomy and physiology, patient care and the healing process, I think it speaks volumes when they still come away feeling they have gained valuable, specialist knowledge from the course.

This is what hands-on education should look like.

My student had the opportunity to work with multiple models at different stages of their post-operative recovery, giving her first-hand experience of how aftercare needs to be adapted to the individual — because no two recoveries are the same.

Throughout her practical training, she learned:

• Different post-op techniques and how they change depending on the stage of recovery
• How and when to use different modalities safely and effectively
• Fibrosis treatment and management
• Understanding compression garments and post-op accessories
• Seroma management and recognising when something requires escalation
• How to assess the recovery journey and adapt treatment appropriately
