As August begins to slip away into September, we wanted to remind you of our early INSET days. Our pupils have 2 INSET days on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th September 🗓

Staff will be doing a range of training on: safeguarding updates, how to make the most of AI in education and inclusion in the classroom - and that's just a small flavour of the themes!

Some of our colleagues at other ELAN - Extend Learning Academies Network school are taking a third INSET day due to some specific maths curriculum training but we can assure you that pupils at Locking will return on Monday 7th September.

We are really looking forward to welcoming the children back to school but we hope that they enjoy the final week of the break 😍

You're never going to believe this but we are already planning for and booking tours for Reception pupils due to start in September 2027! 🤩🤩🤩We're not too far away now from our first evening tour either!

PE days for term 1 are now ready! We will continue to wear PE kit for PE days. PE kit must be:
🩳Black or navy shorts or jogging bottoms (gymnastics-style short shorts are not appropriate)
👖White t-shirt or plain colours dark t-shirt (large logos or football/sports tops are not appropriate)
👚School jumper or black/navy hoodie (large logos are not appropriate)

🌳🌲Forest School will happen on Thursday afternoons but we have set dates in advance this year. When you receive your letter regarding Forest School, it will say which PE day will be replaced with Forest School instead e.g. Sycamore class will have PE on Thursday and Friday initially due to Forest School and then it will go back to Wednesday and Friday.

Summer throwback - July 2026
Our final throwback of the summer had to be dedicated to our Year 6s who are now preparing for their secondary school journeys!

Our biggest children LOVED showing their inner child at Puxton Park Tourist Attraction this week as part of their end of term celebrations 🥳🥳They had an absolute blast! Thank you so much to Friends of Locking Primary School (FOLS) for supporting this most wonderful trip out for our Year 6s 😍

New Year 6 families!

Our local secondary schools will all be hosting their Open Evenings in September and October. These are brilliant evenings which reall showcase what each school can offer to you and your soon-to-be Year 7 child.

These are the dates for all of our local secondaries:

🔴Worle: Thursday 10th September 4.30-7
🟠Priory: Tuesday 15th September 4.30-7.30
🟡Winterstoke Hundred: Thursday 17th September 4-7pm
🟢Hans Price: Thursday 24th September 4.30-7.30
🔵Churchill: Wednesday 30th September 5-8pm (booking advised - see website of FB page)
🟣Broadoak: TBC

We'd really advise you get along to at least one - but getting along to two gives you chance to see and compare, even if you think you know the next steps. We know that you're still getting your head around moving to Year 6 but the deadline for applications is the end of October so schools have to move quickly on this one!

All schools will offer school tours during the day as well where you and your child can see and feel the school when it's fully working.

🌎Rowan class as Geographers 🌎
We are finding it fascinating learning about the continent Africa and the country of Kenya. Today we looked at climates and what the climate is like in Kenya. We used a key in an Atlas to help us find out what climates were like in other countries. We learnt that the further away you are from the equator, the colder it is.

Our wonderful Friends of Locking Primary School (FOLS) team have been working quietly behind the scenes over the summer and we are pleased to announce that we have some very special dates for your diary!

✏🖋 The Annual AGM will be held on Wednesday 30th September at 7pm in the hall. This is a great opportunity for anyone within our school community to hear more about what Friends of Locking Primary School (FOLS) have achieved so far and what their future plans are.

🎃👻Our VERY popular Halloween Disco will be held on Thursday 15th October. Tickets will be available on ParentPay very soon. This is always a highlight of the year!

🎆🎇IT'S BACK! After a record-breaking year last year, can we do even better this year at the Fireworks Display?! Wednesday 4th November - save the date! Tickets will be available soon!

🎬🍿Film night will be held on Thursday 3rd December, this year with a PJ theme! Tickets will be available soon!

Summer throwback - May 2026

Meadow room have had great fun running around the school field, looking at all the different flowers and watching what happens when you blow a dandelion. They have explored water play and physical play, using tyres to help with their upper gross motor skills. Some children have enjoyed role play in the home corner with the babies and lots more exciting activities.
