🚨 Build your confidence in veterinary emergency and critical care!
Emergency cases can happen at any time in first-opinion practice. While you may only see them every few months, the decisions you make in those first few moments can have a huge impact on a patient's outcome.
For many veterinary nurses, ECC can feel daunting, but with the right knowledge and preparation, you can approach emergencies with greater confidence.
This course, delivered by Sam, focuses on the most common emergencies encountered in first opinion practice, along with practical emergency nursing skills that will help you make a real difference when it matters most.
💬 Here's what one learner had to say:
"I realised how much I really did know, which gave me great confidence. The course has also taught me loads of little notebook tips to keep to hand. Really enjoyed the course and have encouraged others in the practice to do it!"
- Jo Wynn
Whether you're newly qualified or have years of experience, there's always something new to learn in ECC.
If you'd like to strengthen your emergency nursing skills and feel more confident when the next emergency arrives, this course is well worth exploring.

💉 Unwrapping Butorphanol
Butorphanol is one of the most commonly used opioids in small animal practice, but do you know exactly how it works?
Here's a quick refresher:
🐾 Provides mild analgesia and reliable sedation
🐾 Acts as a κ (kappa) agonist and μ (mu) antagonist/partial antagonist
🐾 Has a short duration of action, making it ideal for minor procedures
🐾 Frequently combined with drugs such as dexmedetomidine for balanced sedation
🐾 Best suited for mild pain; stronger opioids are preferred for moderate to severe pain
Understanding the pharmacology behind the drugs we use every day helps us make informed decisions and provide the best possible patient care.
💬 How often do you use butorphanol in your practice? Let us know in the comments!

💚 Nobody really prepares you for becoming a Head Veterinary Nurse.
People congratulate you on your promotion.
They tell you how well deserved it is.
They see the confidence you show on the outside.
But they don't always see the conversations happening quietly in your own mind...
"I miss being a nurse."
"I can't keep everyone happy."
"Delegation feels harder than doing it myself."
"I feel like everyone is talking about me."
"Leadership can feel lonely."
"Maybe I'm not cut out for this."
Over the years, I've had the privilege of speaking with so many Head Veterinary Nurses, and one thing became incredibly clear...
These thoughts are far more common than people realise.
The problem is, very few of us ever talk about them.
So I decided to create the guide I wish every Head Veterinary Nurse received on the day they stepped into leadership.
