To everyone receiving their A Level results today — whatever is written on that piece of paper, be proud of how far you’ve come. 💛

Results are important, but they don’t define your ability, your potential or the person you are.

Some of you will be celebrating, some may be feeling disappointed, and others might be wondering “What now?” All of those feelings are completely valid.

There is rarely just one route to where you want to be. Sometimes the unexpected path turns out to be the one that takes you somewhere even better.

So celebrate your achievements, be kind to yourself if things haven’t gone quite as planned, and remember — today is just one step in your story, not the whole story. 🌟

It’s very easily done — adding the “schwa” sound in the early stages can seem like it helps children remember the sounds. Often, it isn’t until children begin sounding out and blending for reading and writing that we realise it hasn’t been as helpful as we hoped.

If children are taught the pure sounds from the very beginning, it can support a much smoother transition into blending words confidently.

Sweden is going back to books and pencils in schools. Here's why that matters.
After going all-in on tablets and screens in classrooms, Sweden noticed something troubling: reading comprehension dropped. Attention spans shortened. Basic skills suffered.
So they changed course.
Now the Swedish government is funding physical textbooks again. Teachers are bringing back handwritten notes and actual encyclopedias. Tablets aren't banned—but they're no longer the star of the show.
The research backs it up: kids understand and retain information better when they read it on paper.
It's not anti-technology. It's pro-balance.
Maybe there's a lesson here for the rest of us

This might be a resource worth looking at. Alternatively, you could make your own home made versions using bottle tops, Lego bricks, building blocks etc. Children can experiment building words using this hands- on method.

As a teacher, despite the ease and convenience of having the interactive whiteboard, I always had my trustee easel, flip chart and pens to hand. Children need to see the modelling of how to hold a writing utensil in order to practise the art of mark making and writing. 😊✏️
