Another year of outstanding results at Ysgol John Bright.

Students were celebrating today as Ysgol John Bright saw another cohort gaining outstanding results from their GCSE studies. “We pride ourselves as a school on ensuring each student is cared for and supported as an individual, and today we see the reward for that in students’ excellent results.” commented Hywel Parry, headteacher. “Each set of results is an important milestone in these students’ lives, as a result of their hard work and dedication. Remarkably, 50% of the cohort gained at least one A*-A, with 20% gaining 5 A*-A grades”

Notable successes include Casi Duller and Isabelle Rynn both with an amazing 10A* 2A each, Joe Chen (8A*, 4A 1B) and Sophia Collins 7A* 6A. It’s a double celebration for twins Abigail and Isobel Naylor, with an astonishing 23 A*/A and 2 B grades between them.

This year a record number of students will continue their studies joining the school’s high-performing sixth form in September.

Ysgol John Bright in top 1% of State and Private 6th forms in the UK

There was much to celebrate today as Ysgol John Bright students collected their A level / level 3 results. “Today we see another great cohort find their future having studied here at YJB” commented Hywel Parry, headteacher. “This year two thirds of the cohort have gained at least 1 A or A* grade which is a testament to students’ hard work, the excellent teaching and high quality pastoral care here at the school.” The progress this year’s year 13 students have made from their starting points to their outstanding results today sees the school placed in the top 1% of 6th forms in the UK. (ALPS provisional data).

Off to study Physics at Oxford is Student President Harry Clayton, having gained a remarkable 4A* 1A, ending seven successful years at YJB.

With 60% of all grades awarded being A*-B, other notable successes include Dyan Owen (4A*) off to Cardiff to Study Medicine, Poppy Close (3A*1A) who will read Mathematics at Durham and Lea Brzyska (3A*1A), who will study Physiotherapy at Southampton. Also heading to Durham is Maisie Millican (2A*, 2A) to read History, and one who hopes to tread the boards in future is Charisma Cunningham (2A*, 2A) who is off to study Musical Theatre at LMA in Liverpool.

Chris Davies, head of sixth form commented “although we think of A level and L3 results as the product of time in the Sixth Form, we should also reflect on how these results are the culmination of close to fourteen years in education. Many teachers, teaching assistants, form tutors, mentors, family members and friends will have played a part in today’s successes. We thank everyone for their contribution and collaboration and wish everyone all the best in their next steps.”

Sixth Form Activities Week 2026

It was lovely to round off the year with a week of activities aimed at promoting wellbeing and resilience in the Sixth Form. On Monday we took advantage of the glorious weather on our wellbeing walk along the coast path to Conwy where we enjoyed a picnic and games on Bodlondeb. Tuesday saw the arrival of the British Army who put us through our paces with problem solving, leadership and team-building activities. On Wednesday we welcomed author Sophie Duffy, from the Royal Literary Fund, who helped us with our essay planning and writing skills after which Jude Nicholls, from SEREN, gave us advise about how best to prepare applications for top universities. In the afternoon we then did some plant pot painting and a family budgeting challenge. Finally, yesterday saw our visit to Bodnant Gardens to enjoy the beautiful grounds and tranquillity.

Well done to Year 8 taking part in an amazing Eisteddfod, full of energy. Year 8 had lots of fun, singing, dancing, reciting and celebrating their creative work over the last half term. Well done to 8LG on winning!

What an experience for some of the Zestee team yesterday. They visited No.10 Downing Street to discuss their journey and the need for enterprise opportunities with James Carroll, the Business Special Adviser to the UK Prime Minister. They also had an exclusive tour of No.10! Everyone got to sit in the famous White State Drawing Room chair 🇬🇧 Huge thank you/diolch o galon to Young Enterprise for all the opportunities they have provided - let’s see what’s next!
