Staff from Sefton Council housing project teams visited LJMU Faculty of Engineering and Technology to learn more about the University’s housing projects. They were given a tour of the BRE test houses on the Byrom Street campus, and then shown around the labs by Dr Damian Fearon and Dr Volkan Ezcan to see controlled experiments using sensors remotely connected to the houses.
Presentations ranged from the future of low carbon construction materials and non-fired eco bricks from Dr Monower Sadique, to a presentation on intelligent AI-supported building scanning using the Boston Dynamics robotic dog (Spot – operated by Dr Layth Kraidi) fitted with thermal cameras and image sensing and scanning software from Dr Hu Du.
LCEI's own Dr Cameron Kelly demonstrated the processes the project uses to calculate GHG emissions and help LCR businesses identify their carbon impact.
The visit offered a greater understanding of council housing projects and showcased the work of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology within LJMU, hopefully laying the foundations for future collaborations. Proud to be a part of it.
