Today, the University of Liverpool in partnership with Shaping Futures is starting a new outreach project called Merseyside Young Engineers! The activities will be online this year with plans to offer hands-on activities when all the current restrictions are lifted.
Today we have the first of our TinkerCAD sessions. Our Y10s will spend a number of sessions designing their own extrusion die which we'll refine over the coming weeks. When all is finished we will be 3D printing their designs and culminating in a live "show and tell" at the end. Good luck Y10s!!!

We had a really great day The Big Bang North West yesterday, where visitors to our stand took part in the construction of a 1:200 scale replica of the Mersey Gateway bridge. During the morning session, students cast sections of the bridge deck (roadway) in plaster of Paris. Then in the afternoon, they built the bridge out from the pylons (towers) by suspending the deck sections using one very long cable.
Diane had a smashing time - literally. Fortunately the accident occurred after the event had closed.
Thanks very much to our students Isaac, Isaac and Ross for their help in making this such a great success!

Some photos from our visit to St John Plessington in Bebington yesterday, where the Shaping Futures Building Bridges crew succeeded in installing the first cable. We were joined by Birgir and Gordon from Ramboll UK, who talked to the students about life as engineers and who also brought with them a sample strand of cable from the bridge. Keep going guys; it'll be fantastic when the bridge is complete.

We're busy preparing femur for our hip replacement outreach activities in January using our .robox 3D printers. Despite an overhang in excess of 90°, we're just about managing to print them without support structures, which speeds the process up.

Some photos from an excellent morning at Ramboll UK in Chester, where we were introducing our "Shaping Futures - Building Bridges" project. We successfully tried out pylon and deck section casting in plaster of Paris and then had a go at installing the cable.
Also present were Sarah Corran and colleagues from Bridges & Structures at Cheshire West and Chester Council
We really look forward to working with you guys over the coming months on this project and thanks go to Fay Newham in particular for her encouragement and support.
