Do something amazing this Spring and help to spread autism acceptance and understanding

Derbyshire boy Max, 11, starts his own clothing line to help others who are autistic - Penguin PR 02/03/2024

This is a lovely story about Max, aged 11, who started his own clothes line to help help other autistic people like himself.

The t-shirts are made from a super-soft material and have Pop-Its – popular fidget toys often used by neurodivergent people to help them sooth and self-regulate – in the seams. Called the Fidget-T, the t-shirts feature unique Pop-Its sewn into the seams, where the arms naturally fall, so it can be used as a calming technique without it being obvious.

Place2Be launched the mental health awareness week in 2015 to empower, equip and give a voice to every child in the UK.

Now in its 10th year, their goal is to make sure that no child or young person has to face a mental health problem alone.

You can find out more information on their website

Jo at OSSME recently started using 'Zones of Regulation' to support a student with their emotional regulation.

Individuals learn about each of the four zones, and to recognise when they are in one of those zones.

Self-regulation is an important skill, and 'Zones of Regulation' helps to promote this.

Jo even had the fantastic idea to use the below chart on the student's mobile phone background, so that they can look at it whenever it's needed.

What are the Zones of Regulation?

It's an approach used to categorise all the different ways children feel and the states of alertness they experience into four coloured zones.

help the individuals develop skills to help regulate themselves. Self-regulation is really important for our students, and the zones of regulation helps to promote this.

The activities help individuals to learn about each of the four zones, and to recognise when they are in one of those zones.
