“What books should every therapist read?”
At the moment, my reading list is heavily focused on supervision as I continue my journey towards becoming an accredited supervisor.
I’m currently reading ‘Supervision in the Mental Health Professions’ by Joyce Scaife, exploring the theory, ethics and practice of effective clinical supervision.
Alongside this, some of the books on my growing professional reading list include:
✨ The Body Keeps the Score - Bessel van der Kolk
✨ Man’s Search for Meaning - Viktor Frankl
✨ The Gift of Therapy - Irvin Yalom
As therapists, our learning doesn’t end when we qualify. The best practitioners remain curious, reflective and committed to developing their knowledge throughout their careers.
At UK Therapy Guild Academy, we encourage our students to become lifelong learners - not simply gaining a qualification, but developing the depth, insight and professional confidence needed to support others effectively.
What’s the most influential book you’ve read recently?

Sometimes people ask me ‘What’s the vision for UK Therapy Guild?’
It’s never been just about qualifications.
Yes, we’re proud to offer our Level 5 Dual Diploma in Integrative Counselling & Clinical Hypnotherapy and I genuinely love the community that’s already growing around it. But the bigger vision has always been about people.
People finding confidence again.
People finding purpose.
People finding somewhere they finally feel they fit.
A place where growth feels human.
Where support feels genuine.
Where becoming a therapist isn’t just about a certificate — it’s about transformation, connection and belonging.
I see UK Therapy Guild growing into something even bigger over time.
Liverpool.
Manchester.
Chester.
Not just locations.
Communities.
Spaces filled with conversation, learning, encouragement and connection.
A future that includes:
• specialist CPD opportunities
• a Level 6 pathway in Integrative Counselling
• a Level 5 CYP pathway
• a growing counselling service supporting individuals, schools, children and staff
• supervision, mentoring and therapist support
• spaces where therapists continue growing long after qualification
And somewhere within all of that
The Therapist Lounge vision too: A space for therapists to connect, collaborate, breathe, reflect and remember why they started this journey in the first place.
We’re not trying to become the biggest. Just a place where people feel
Seen.
Heard.
Supported.
And like they truly belong.
And for me
that will always matter most.

A lot of women ask me - is there actually work out there once I qualify?
And honestly, I understand why that question comes up.
Training to become a counsellor is a big commitment. Emotionally, financially, personally. You want to know it leads somewhere meaningful.
Recently, I checked in with some of our graduates to see how they were getting on.
103 of them are now practising.
Some are working in private practice. Some in schools, the NHS, charities, and community settings. Supporting people through grief, trauma, anxiety, relationships, burnout, addiction, loss and life transitions.
What matters to me is not just that they qualified.
It’s that they trained with depth. With self-awareness. With real relational understanding. Not just theory learnt for an assignment, but personal development that changes the way you sit with another human being.
That’s the difference.
At the UK Therapy Guild Academy, we don’t just train people to pass a course.
We help people grow into the work.
If there’s been a quiet part of you wondering whether it might finally be your time to do something meaningful, maybe this is your sign to explore it.
September enrolment is now open.
