Step-by-step strategies to support families with their child’s development

Photos from Early Years Intervention's post 30/04/2026

If toileting challenges feel big in your house at the moment, I hope this post might feel helpful and reassuring 🌿

Sometimes slowing down and strengthening the foundations first can help the toileting journey feel a little more manageable for everyone.

Small steps still matter too 🤍

Getting dressed can feel like such a small part of the day…
but when it’s hard, it can quickly become a struggle for everyone.

Sometimes, it’s not about “won’t” or “won’t listen”.

It might be about how something feels,
how overwhelmed your child is,
or how much control they have in that moment.

When we shift from correcting the behaviour
to getting curious about what’s underneath,
things often start to feel a little calmer — for both of you.

If this is something you’re seeing at home,
you’re not alone in it.

Anita

Sometimes what looks like a small support…
is actually doing something really big.

A visual timetable.
A first/then card.
A timer.

Visuals can be used across any part of your child’s day. From morning routines to play, transitions and bedtime.

They’re not about making things easier or “giving in.”
They’re about helping your child understand what’s happening, what’s coming next, and what’s expected of them.

Because when things feel unclear…
they can feel overwhelming.

And when things feel overwhelming, behaviour is often the only way your child can communicate that.

Visual supports don’t change your child.
They change the environment around them, making it clearer, calmer and more predictable.

For some children, that’s not just helpful…
it’s what allows them to cope, to participate, and to feel safe.

If this resonates, you’re not alone and small changes can make a big difference 💛

I’d love to know… does your child use visual supports?

Impossible.
I’m possible.

Same word.
A different meaning.

A gentle reminder for the days that feel heavy. 💛

If you’re new here, welcome! 💛
And if you’ve been here a while, this feels like a good moment to reintroduce myself.

I’m Anita, and I support children and families through the early years — often in their own homes, where real life happens.

My work is rooted in understanding, connection, and confidence. I don’t believe in quick fixes or “fixing” children. I believe in slowing things down, noticing what a child is telling us, and supporting parents to feel more sure of themselves in everyday moments.

I’m calm by nature and very aware that parenting (and supporting children) can feel overwhelming. I care deeply about families feeling heard, supported, and never judged. Some of the most meaningful progress happens quietly, between sessions, when things start to feel a little lighter.

If you’re here because things feel hard, messy, or uncertain… you’re not behind. You’re human, and you’re very welcome here.

If you’re new here, I would love for you to say hello! 👋

Anita

Sometimes it helps to name what matters most. 💛

A parent said to me recently… “Who said parenting was easy?”

And honestly - no one.

Parenting is hard.
Especially when there’s more than one thing going on, when you’re tired, worried or trying your best without all the answers.

Struggling doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. It means you’re human.

If this feels familiar, please know it’s not just you. 💛

Anita
