Following the children's interest we have been carrying on with our transport theme with a small world garage and big boxes that have been boats, trains and cars! The children have enjoyed learning our new song - riding along in my big, red tractor and sharing books about tractors, cars and their favourite train book 'All change!'
We have had lots of laughs, as well as helping the younger children learn their friend's names, whilst playing the games of 'whose in the box'. Everyone wanted a turn!
Outside the children have been practicing their balancing skills and on the space hoppers, riding the balance bikes and walking along the planks, climbing up on to the cable reel, and jumping off.
We are looking forward to our last week of term and our Graduation family picnic on Friday.

Little Acorns have been thinking about different sorts of transport this week. We have had boats carrying people and animals in the water inside and outside. Diggers, tractors and dumper trucks in the compost and, following children's interests, an airport and helipad. The younger children have been very busy building a very long train track all around the classroom, connecting the track together independently.
We had some beautiful rose petals in our home corner which the children used in their cafe. They wrote lists of what the customers wanted using their phonics knowledge to write the first sound in some words.
Outside we have been painting and printing. First the children used dinosaurs. We looked at the different tracks they made. Then they decided to use their hands and feet. They loved painting their feet (it tickles !!) their favourite colour and running up and down on the paper.

Back by popular demand, we are having a pirate and sea creatures week! The children have been enjoying rescuing the pirates from whales, sharks and a giant crab! They have been dressing up and looking for treasure following the pirate maps.
We have enjoyed some lovely new stories about animals that live in the sea and have been drawing and colouring their favourite sea creatures.
We all enjoyed a good dance about playing the freeze game, hokey cokey and and old favourite the farmer's in his den.
Outside the children have been having lots of water fun, now the weather is finally summer like! They have been watering the daisies - and each other, making magic potions and paddling in the tuff tray. They added lots of grass and some leaves, pretending that it was sea w**d.
The younger children have been leaning about farm animals and have had lots of fun digging in the compost.

This week the children have been making wonderful Father's Day cards and telling us why they love their Daddy.
Inside we have had a 'rawsome ' time with lots of dinosaurs about! I hope that they are feeling friendly!! The children have enjoyed listening to lots of dinosaur stories and telling us their dinosaur facts. We have also been busy with the doll's house and dolls and the ever popular Happy Land.
The children made some beautiful pink playdough and then used it to make lots of cup cakes adding hundreds and thousands and making it smell delicious with ginger.
Outside the children have been using the chalk to create a big seaside picture on the side of the shed.
The younger children have been practicing jumping off the caterpillar and running after the hoops.

What a busy last week of term we have had!!
We have been thinking about keeping safe. The children have taken part in a fire drill this week and we talked about how we need to listen and follow the instruction when we hear the fire alarm. On Wednesday the children watched a puppet story about what happened when Dog and Cat went too near a lake without their grown up! The children practiced how they would float on their back, shouting for"help" and thinking about being careful at the edge of water. Luckily the story had a happy ending! We have also enjoyed listening to the Hungry caterpillar story and the children have painted some wonderful caterpillars using cotton wool balls, pegs and lots of paint. The children have shared lots of knowledge about butterflies with each other.

This week we have been following the children's interests, going back to old favourites. The children have been builders building and mending with the role play tools and bricks and lego. They have enjoyed using the tractors and diggers in the sand.
Outside we have been planted cress seeds to put into sandwiches - they are already starting to grow!
The children are still practicing their ball skills playing bat and ball, basketball and trying to catch the ball as they jump on to the other end of the little plank. This is difficult for the adults as well!.
We have had fun with lots of water play and pouring water down pipes and watering everything with our watering cans.
We finished off the week with some gloop messy play. The children squeezed and scooped it and used it for mark making. We thought it looked like mashed potato!

This week the children have been practicing their physical skills.
Inside they have been dressing dolls, throwing beans bags into a basket, threading buttons onto strings and learning how to thread a string in and out around a picture . Our younger children were amazing at this!
Outside the children have enjoyed picking daisies and dandelions, adding water and mixing them all together to make us some dinner. Yum!
We have also had great fun introducing ' dough gym' an activity to support hand and finger strength. We squeeze, roll, pull and squash playdough whilst singing songs.
The children have been very active outside. They have been running after the hoops trying to catch them before they fall over, jumping off the caterpillar and slide and riding around the outside area on the bikes.
Some of the children have kept practicing all week trying to roll the hoops themselves and can now do it. Great perseverance!

Little Acorns are feeling happy this week because the weather has finally improved. We have spent more time outside playing bat and ball, parachute games, making potions and soup, playing lots of games of the children's favourite 'what's the time Mr wolf?' We have even had snack time and storytime time outside.
We saw a butterfly and it inspired some beautiful butterfly art using paints, felt pens, tissue paper and the ever popular sequins!
The older children have started nursery phonics every morning and are learning the picture cards to begin with. They are very keen and are superstar learners!

We are all happy to be back at preschool after the Easter break and
are looking forward to showing our new starters what fun we have!
The children have been very busy enjoying playing inside and out (when the weather allowed) building with the big lego bricks, painting the shed with water paint, practicing our basketball skills and lots of messy process art painting!
This week we have been thinking about mini beasts and the children have been exploring our tuff tray insect habitat, looking at the animals through magnifying glasses and checking what they have found in the mini beast book. We went on a hunt outside and found two little creatures despite the chilly weather.

Little Acorns has had a very busy and exciting couple of weeks leading up to Easter!
The children have been enjoying being the Easter bunny and hiding Easter eggs all around the classroom. They have been feeling very creative and have been busy using lots of sequins, tissue paper and feathers to make beautiful art and of course making brilliant Easter cards to take home.
We have had a very messy time making chocolate nests - some children ate most of their's before it could get into the cake case!! Yummy!!
But the best bit was when the Easter Bunny came to Little Acorns!! He brought chocolate eggs for all the children which they enjoyed for a treat snack today. Thank you so much.
Happy Easter everyone!

Little Acorns have been learning some traditional tales over the last couple of weeks. The children have enjoyed retelling the stories of Goldilocks, Billy goats gruff and Three little pigs using puppets, soft toys and small world figures. Our classroom has been full of bears and pigs!
Following the children's interests we have continued with lots of painting, colour mixing and water play inside and outside as well now the weather is a bit warmer.
The children have used natural materials such as shells, conkers, wood and leaves to make pictures and patterns.

Following on from last week's interests, the children have enjoyed building lots of different things using lego, stickle bricks and their old favourite - the big foam bricks. They are also still loving working together to complete jigsaw puzzles. This week a big number puzzle and a getting dressed puzzle.
Outside they have been very busy water painting the shed and cleaning the caterpillar, car and bikes.
We have been using paint to colour mix and make patterns with fingertips.
Finally we have started to make some lovely (secret) things for Mother's Day!
