As childcarers, we don’t always have to step in at the first sign of conflict.
Think about the learning opportunities that can happen when children are allowed to problem solve with their peers.
These two both believed that this stick was completely and absolutely theirs!!🙈…..cue a tug of war and some big emotions.
I could’ve stepped in to ‘fix it’.
But- by leaving them to try to solve the problem allowed them to learn assertiveness skills, start to understand other feelings and emotions and problem solve to come to a fair conclusion.
A couple of moments later they were skipping along happily and decided to throw the stick into the stream together - ending in a moment of shared joy ❤️

One of the Children found a tiny nectarine that had fallen from our tree. This sparked an interest into exploring its texture, cutting it up , and smelling it ! It won’t be long before we have a huge bounty of them again ☺️
We then went to check on our sunflower seedlings and rainbow carrots 🌻 🥕
It’s been so lovely to watch the children grow year after year alongside our veg garden. It doesn’t seem so long ago that I had to guard tomato plants with my life as they were too tempting not to pick and throw around 🙈🤣
Now I have a group of mature gardeners 🤓🤓🤓🤓that tend to our plants with so much care, noticing every little change in our garden . They even remind me to water our seedlings💚💚💚💚

I made a nice little set up on the table this morning…..the children had a much better idea!!
This is why strict planning doesn’t work in early years. The magic happens when they’re engaged and following their own agenda 😎

Although we’re mostly outdoors, the children love our Children’s Centre visits.
It’s lovely to see how over time, their confidence has grown - I think one of their favourite parts is talking to the lovely lady on reception on arrival, showing her their clothes/ sharing birthday news etc. We’ve built a little community of children, friends/ childminders and it’s so lovely to have that bit of variety to each week to build on everyone’s personal social and emotional skills ❤️
