"Cath spent a full morning with teachers and TAs at the beginning of this school year, with a focus on spelling support for children with dyslexia. As SENDCo, Cath involved me in the planning and resources to help shape the training to match the needs of our school. Cath developed the staff's understanding how children learn to spell and the possible difficulties they may face. We then looked at practical strategies and interventions to support children. The staff enjoyed the practical and inclusive nature of her training and especially appreciated Cath's understanding of Dyslexia from her personal experiences.
Cath empowered staff to focus on multi sensory approaches, which as a staff team we feel we have not prioritised. We are now looking forward to making this a focus for our children.

Speling is difficul.
Spelin is challanging.
Spellng is hard… and we’ve all been there!

I started the new term by delivering a spelling training session to approximately 25 primary school staff.

We explored the foundations of spelling, whole-school approaches, learning environments and interventions. We also considered spelling from a child’s point of view and how a more multisensory approach can make learning more accessible.

Preparing for the session made me reflect on my own practice and think about how much I would probably do differently now if I were still in the classroom. It’s a good reminder that we’re all still learning.
