Little Owls children have heard the story of the Rainbow Fish. Rainbow Fish finds himself all alone due his unkindness. Rainbow fish learns that being kind is the most wonderful thing and that kindness leads to friendship and happiness. Children have explored a story tray and practised counting and numeral recognition lining up all of the sea creatures, playing a Rainbow Fish matching pairs game and painting their very own Rainbow Fish using celery to make scale shapes.

This week year 1 are looking at the book Stanley's Stick by John Hegley. To begin the week, they chose their own stick and wrote a label. There were all sorts of creative ideas including fishing rods, magic wands and musical instruments!

Year 3 Ukele lessons from CBC Inspiring Music are off to a flying start and have brought some much needed colour and fun to a wet and Autumnal week!

What a joy to welcome our Southcott family back to school! So many happy and familiar faces entering school each day this week. The children have certainly been hot, but they have also been industrious, getting to know their new teachers and learning new classroom routines. We ended the week with our first Celebration Assembly where everyone got to hear about all the amazing things our Pupils of the Week have been up to๐Ÿ†

We'd like to say thank you to our dedicated staff team and well-done children and families - what a wonderful first week!

June Tobin from the charity visited the children to talk to them about how their funds will go to supporting families who access the charity. What can your children tell you about the charity?

Last night, we had the pleasure and privilege of watching our year 4s start to fledge their Southcott nest๐Ÿฆ‰ ๐Ÿชบ taking to the stage in an incredible performance of Out of the Ark Music production of Peter Pan. We are very lucky to be able to offer this incredible enrichment opportunity, provided by CBC Inspiring Music , who also visit our school throughout the week to teach a variety of instruments.

Thanks to your support, at fundraising events like yesterday's summer fair, the Southcott School Association is able to support funding opportunities like this for all our pupils.

We are incredibly grateful to our SSA, school staff and our families who continue to show such support to our school community.

Well done year 3, you were all brilliant ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

To every single parent, child, carer, grandparent, staff member, and, of course, our incredible School Association. Without your support, none of this would have been possible. A fantastic day, thank you from the bottom of our hearts ๐Ÿ’•

The children in Year 1 have been learning about the artist Paul Klee. They looked at examples of his work and studied the painting Castle and Sun. They then created their own cityscapes.

This week we celebrated our love of music at Southcott by holding our long-awaited Summer Concert! Children had the opportunity to perform live, wowing the audience with songs from Matilda and many instrumentals. Everything from smoke on the water to jingle bells and improvisation! We have lots of budding musicians in our midst. A huge thank you to our very own Mrs Phillips and Mrs Burns, without whom non of this would have been possible, and to our peripatetic music teachers from CBC Inspiring Music who gave up their evenings to support our children. Thank you! ๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽน

Year 3 have been having a great time in English performing a play version of Roald Dahl's 'The Twits'. ๐ŸŽฌ We have had directors, actors and thought about all the different roles that are needed in the theatre. We loved using our outside stage and the glorious weather was a bonus! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

We're looking forward to welcoming you all to our Summer Fair! No need to book in advance. Every entrance ticket is automatically entered into our prize draw. With two magic shows, music performances, a BBQ, and an array of games and stalls, it promises to be a great event for the school community.

Earlier this week, Key Stage 1 & 2 took part in a Kindness workshop with the charity @52.lives It was brilliant, we learnt a lot about why kindness is important and how it can improve so many peopleโ€™s lives. Being kind releases a hormone which even makes you live longer! It was a very interactive workshop and we had time to make our own kindness creation. Some children wrote a poem, some wrote letters, some children made cards or drawings. Each child chose somebody that they wanted to give a little bit of kindness to.

Explaura Forest School have been having a blast amongst our woodland area this week. We are incredibly lucky to have direct access to such a diverse natural habitat here at Southcott.

In Year 1, the children learnt about the different parts of a plant and what it needs to survive. They have been busy observing the changes to cress seeds as it grows and have planted sunflower seeds to look after.

Today, the children were lucky to share their love of reading with Author-Comedian-Illustrator-Football Coach-Dad, Olaf Falafel! They listened to an engaging reading of Blobfish, heard all about Trixie Art Avenger who rights wrongs through the power of art, took part in a draw along of Blobfish and had copies of his books signed! What an amazing day!

Year 1 have been botanists in Science this week. They learnt about evergreen and deciduous trees and looked scientifically at trees around the school site using magnifying glasses and classification charts.

Our brilliant Southcott School Association organised a lovely activity for the children to design themselves as a King or Queen to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III. We think you'll agree the results are incredible. 20% from all orders goes to the SSA who fund extra curricular activities for all our children โค๏ธ

Year 3 have been having great fun this week making wooden photo frames. They have been measuring, sawing, sanding, gluing to make a free-standing, sturdy photo frame. The children worked so safely and carefully; we were so impressed with their efforts!

Year 2 have been inspired by Andy Goldsworthy to create art and sculptures outdoors. The materials used in Goldsworthy's art often include brightly coloured flowers, icicles, leaves, mud, pinecones, snow, stone, twigs, and thorns. He has been quoted as saying, "I think it's incredibly brave to be working with flowers and leaves and petals. My remit is to work with nature as a whole." I think you'll agree our Year 2's have shown great creativity!

We have some budding Wimbledon stars of the future in year 1, who have enjoyed tennis in P.E. this half term ๐ŸŽพ

This week in Little Owls we have very Busy Beeโ€™s. The children have loved using our Bee Bots to programme a simple route using a map for guidance. The children have learnt some amazing facts about Bees and how they help to pollinate. Did you know that there are over 25,000 different species of Bee? Thatโ€™s pretty impressive! Our children have also loved making their very own bees to buzz around our beehive. We are sure youโ€™ll agree that they are

We'd like to say a big thank you to our for gifting each pupil, staff member, and governor this commemorative pin badge. Thank you for the lovely thought โค๏ธ

We need you!

Can you spare a few hours on Sunday 14th May to help out with tasks around Southcott to spruce up our lovely outdoor area. We need volunteers to come along and help with painting, gardening and general DIY.
Children are welcome to come and help but they will remain your responsibility so will need supervising.

We are planning to have a break for lunch so please bring along a picnic to enjoy with friends. We will provide tea/coffee/squash and cakes.

If you can help then please complete the Google form on Parent Hub so we have an idea of who will be coming.
Thanks so much as always, we couldnโ€™t do things without your support and we appreciate it massively!
The SSA.

Lots of fun to be had at Forest School this week from cooking bread to making a soldier. Thank you to Explaura Forest School for another great session!
