Two weeks ago I began a weekly meeting with my Reception class and parents! It's been really.successful and a great platform to share their home learning!

This weeks zoom meeting is a story and Show and Tell session - giving the children the opportunity to practise their question asking with purpose!

ClassDojo is the perfect platform to share all my hone learning on! :) my post went something like this...

👍👍👍

This zoom meeting we will have a story and a special Show and Tell session just like we do at school.

If you would like to share something during the Show and Tell, then please let me know by Wednesday afternoon.. You can send a photo to me to show on screen or maybe you have a new skill to show off? A song, a dance, a sports move... anything you want to share! :)

Parents
During Show and Tell we work on the vital skill of question asking to gather more information using question starters like...
Who
What
Where
Why
How
Can

So please encourage your child to work on question asking ready for Friday (and beyond)!

If they want to ask a question at the end of their friend's show and tell, then I'm suggesting they raise their hand to be selected! :)

Look forward to it! 👍

Have fun this weekend thinking about what you would like to show and tell and I'll be in touch on Monday with more home learning for the Summer/Pentecost Term :)

Been recommending this app for early resding and phonics for 6 years now!

Been a while since I've posted a provision enhancement pic! We've had some but our enhancements have come from the children's interests and in the moment as we've taken on that approach to planning :)

(Will upload some pics of my provision soon!)

We're still getting to grips with the concept of focus children through the weeks of settling children into the routine of school and the million other things that take your attention during the days at school! However, we are really happy with how well it's working! It's amazing to see the children taking their own learning into different directions and you be there with the freedom to guide them :)

One addition to our continuous provision, which will now remain for the year, is our woodwork workshop area! Always something I've done but only for a couple of weeks at a time! (Now I ask myself why? But that's the beauty of being reflective I guess).

I have been amazed at how some of the children have surpassed my expectations in this early stage to 'make with a purpose in mind'. Some, of course, are still getting to grips with holding a hammer and hitting the nail on the head.. while developing sustained concentration to not hit the wrong nail as it were. ;)
But others have been little workshop engineers!! I know this is also supported by images that ispire which are available in the area, as well as showcasing work :)
(Alll little miracles in their own right)

So if anyone has scraps of wood they would like to donate then give me a shout! :)

Thank you to Dad aka 'Dave the Builder' for his excellent skill based session to support them with vocab and safety :)

Claire

P.s. I don't often get a picture of me as I'm.isually the other end of the camera, but one little one asked tio use my camera and went off snapping a whole range of shots, this one included ;)

Once a little boy went to school.
One morning
The teacher said:
"Today we are going to make a picture."
"Good!" thought the little boy.
He liked to make all kinds;
Lions and tigers,
Chickens and cows,
Trains and boats;
And he took out his box of crayons
And began to draw.

But the teacher said, "Wait!"
"It is not time to begin!"
And she waited until everyone looked ready.
"Now," said the teacher,
"We are going to make flowers."
"Good!" thought the little boy,
He liked to make beautiful ones
With his pink and orange and blue crayons.
But the teacher said "Wait!"
"And I will show you how."
And it was red, with a green stem.
"There," said the teacher,
"Now you may begin."

The little boy looked at his teacher's flower
Then he looked at his own flower.
He liked his flower better than the teacher's
But he did not say this.
He just turned his paper over,
And made a flower like the teacher's.
It was red, with a green stem.

On another day
The teacher said:
"Today we are going to make something with clay."
"Good!" thought the little boy;
He liked clay.
He could make all kinds of things with clay:
Snakes and snowmen,
Elephants and mice,
Cars and trucks
And he began to pull and pinch
His ball of clay.

But the teacher said, "Wait!"
"It is not time to begin!"
And she waited until everyone looked ready.
"Now," said the teacher,
"We are going to make a dish."
"Good!" thought the little boy,
He liked to make dishes.
And he began to make some
That were all shapes and sizes.

But the teacher said "Wait!"
"And I will show you how."
And she showed everyone how to make
One deep dish.
"There," said the teacher,
"Now you may begin."

The little boy looked at the teacher's dish;
Then he looked at his own.
He liked his better than the teacher's
But he did not say this.
He just rolled his clay into a big ball again
And made a dish like the teacher's.
It was a deep dish.

And pretty soon
The little boy learned to wait,
And to watch
And to make things just like the teacher.
And pretty soon
He didn't make things of his own anymore.

Then it happened
That the little boy and his family
Moved to another house,
In another city,
And the little boy
Had to go to another school.

The teacher said:
"Today we are going to make a picture."
"Good!" thought the little boy.
And he waited for the teacher
To tell him what to do.
But the teacher didn't say anything.
She just walked around the room.

When she came to the little boy
She asked, "Don't you want to make a picture?"
"Yes," said the little boy.
"What are we going to make?"
"I don't know until you make it," said the teacher.
"How shall I make it?" asked the little boy.
"Why, anyway you like," said the teacher.
"And any color?" asked the little boy.
"Any color," said the teacher.
And he began to make a red flower with a green stem.
