Gateway College Art Department are looking for a Fashion and/or Textiles Artist in Residence. We would ideally like to appoint an ex-student who knows the department and who may be a Fashion or Textiles graduate.

Here is just some of the facilities you could use:
Screens and screen printing

Cornelly Machine, Irish Embroidery machine
Overlocker, Lockstitch

Irons, textile soldering irons, heat guns, hot plate

The position is for one day per week in the first instance, 9am-4pm, with one hour a day to be spent with students in return for a personal workspace and use of the facilities.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about their own practice, who will thrive in the creative spaces, creating their own works independently and who may need the facilities to grow their own practice. You should also enjoy the busy working atmosphere of the department, and the interest students will inevitably have in your work!
Time with current students for approx. 1 hour per day could include a small group practical demo, talks about your practice, facilitate portfolio workshops, one to one advice, sketchbook surgeries or contribute to a whole college art and design related project. This is negotiable dependant on your skills and interests.
Interviews will take place in March and if appointed a DBS check will be conducted and an induction to equipment, and an individual plan will be put in place to suit your needs with some safeguarding training.
An Artist in Residence position is common in galleries, universities and schools. It enables the artist to have access to equipment, and can enable you to develop vital skills to grow your practice, progress into teaching if desired, and change your working environment each week if you usually work from home having contact with other keen creatives.
If you are inspired, please send an email outlining your interest and how you could benefit from this position, and benefit our students, with a current CV to Linda Blackburn [email protected]
Please get in touch if you have any questions!
