Well done to Babington Academy on their Green Flag success!

We are proud to share that Babington Academy has achieved the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag Award!

This award recognises our commitment to sustainability and environmental education. It celebrates the hard work of our learners and staff in developing eco-projects, embedding our eco-code and involving the whole school community.

By encouraging our learners to care for the environment, we are helping to build a greener and healthier future for Leicester.

A huge thank you and well done to everyone who contributed to this fantastic achievement!

We welcome back all school staff and students to a new school year and autumn term. We are very much looking forward to working with you all this year on all things eco, environment and sustainability!

Today, we said a fond farewell and good luck to Marc as he leaves our Sustainable Schools team at Leicester City Council. Marc joined the team 6 years ago as an education officer, before working his way to become sustainable schools manager. We thank him for his incredible and valuable input and work, and for all he has achieved supporting schools and working with partners across Leicester. We wish him the best of luck in his new role at Bradgate Park.

It's the final day of term, and as we end the 2025/26 academic year, we would like to say a massive thank you and well done to all the fantastic students, staff and partners in Leicester who have worked with us and taken part in our events this year, including Eco Schools, Eco Roadshows, Good Life Schools, Grow Your Own Grub, Litter Less Leicester, and more.

For those doing the Eco Schools Award, you have until the 31st July to get your applications completed and submitted. If you need any support, do get in touch!

Registrations are also open for next year - we can't wait to work with you all and see what wonderful eco and sustainability projects you do.

We have had a wonderful day out today at Abbey Pumping Station for our Mealbarrow Extravaganza event as part of our Grow Your Own Grub competition.

Schools from across Leicester created a healthy menu based on this year’s theme - the Rainbow - and then have grown some of the ingredients in a wheelbarrow, which they have then designed and decorated to match the theme too.

The schools have also written reports on how they found the whole growing process.

A massive thank you to everyone who visited Abbey Pumping Station today to vote for their favourite mealbarrow! Thank you to all the volunteers who also supported our event.

Votes will be counted and the overall winner will be revealed next week!

Marc and Vicky have been busy all day collecting the mealbarrows ready for the Grow Your Own Grub Mealbarrow Extravaganza day tomorrow at Abbey Pumping Station!

There are lots of fantastic mealbarrows to come and to vote for your favourite, all based on this year’s theme - the rainbow!

It is a fun, free, family day out and as well as the magnificent mealbarrows, there will also be the Library Book Bus, the railway to have a ride on (£1 per trip), the model railway will be running and there will be fun meccano and teddy bear events going on too!

So come on down between 11am and 3pm to have a great day.

Plastic Free July has now started! What will you do to try and reduce your plastic use and waste, and help to protect our oceans and wildlife?

The UK throws away an estimated 295 billion pieces of plastic waste every year! Much of this plastic is single-use and not recycled (either because it can’t be recycled or because people just chuck it in the bin rather than the recycling bin).

Plastic Free July is exactly what it sounds like, a movement to try and encourage people to use less or no plastic in the month of July. It’s a really good way for people to get involved and think about what they’re buying and to hopefully make some permanent changes to reduce the amount of plastic in their day to day lives.
