With more than 30 years’ experience to share, we’re confident we’ll have a part-time course that’s right for you. You might be keen to learn a language for the first time or want to brush up on old skills - there’s lots of reasons people join our courses. From holidays and moving abroad, to improving employability and immersing yourself in a different culture, we believe that

developing your language skills can be a life-changing experience. Our classes aim to develop students’ language skills and their cross-cultural capability by covering the culture, social institutions, political and economic context of the countries where the language is spoken. Students will explore different aspects of language and the cultures of the countries where the target language is spoken. In addition to developing a range of key skills and adopting different language learning strategies independent learning will be encouraged in close relationship with classroom-based learning. Note that to reach the advertised level, it may be necessary for students to attend the same ‘level’ class for two years. The Council of Europe provides a self-assessment grid here. | «bacon»

Como adaptación del inglés «bacon», se pueden usar en español las formas «beicon», manteniendo la pronunciación inglesa, y «bacón», conservando la grafía original inglesa con pronunciación española. La forma «beicon» es hoy mayoritaria y, por ello, preferible.

Conviene recordar además que hay equivalencias españolas tradicionales, como «tocino» —usada, con este sentido, en países como México, Chile o el Ecuador—, «tocineta» —en países como Cuba, Colombia y Venezuela— y, en general, «panceta ahumada».

Lo habitual hoy es usar «mar» como masculino («el mar»). Aun así, también se usa como femenino en ciertos contextos y expresiones, algunas propias del lenguaje marinero, como «alta mar», «hacerse a la mar», «pelillos a la mar» o en «la mar de» (como en «Es la mar de divertido»).
