Highlights from week one of the GSAL Malawi Tour.

Our sixth form students made an incredible start to their Malawi adventure, embracing every opportunity to learn, connect and explore.

Highlights included visits to STEKA Skills Centre and Beit-CURE Children's Hospital, time spent in a traditional Malawian village, and hands-on sustainability workshops at EcoLodgy, where students learnt about permaculture, composting and bamboo construction.

A truly inspiring first week – we look forward to sharing more from their journey soon.

Today, Leeds marks 400 years since receiving its Royal Charter - a milestone that invites reflection on the institutions that have helped shape the city across the centuries.

When Leeds became a self-governing borough in 1626, Leeds Grammar School (LGS) had already been part of the town for more than 70 years. Later, Leeds Girls' High School (LGHS), founded in 1876, would become another important part of the city's educational landscape.

Across different centuries, both schools educated generations of young people who would go on to contribute to the life of Leeds and beyond.

Today, as The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL), we're proud to be part of that continuing story and to celebrate 400 years of civic life in our city.

Recently, we celebrated ‘More in Common Week’ – our annual celebration of the diversity, talents and unity that make the GSAL community so special.

Wednesday's lunchtime festival was a fantastic showcase of our students' creativity, featuring an incredible mix of bands, instrumentalists and singers, alongside a stunning gymnastics performance in the theatre foyer.

It was a joyful and inspiring celebration that brought our whole school community together, highlighting the unique talents and creativity of every individual.

🏀 Congratulations to Year 9 student Ariana, who has been selected to represent England's Under 14 Girls basketball team.

After being identified as one of the country's top young players and attending the England Talent Programme Selection Camp, Ariana earned her place in the national squad.

Since then, she has already helped England become Home Nations champions, with the team winning the tournament in Cardiff at the end of June.

Next month, Ariana will travel to Slovenia to represent England in a series of international fixtures.

Everyone at GSAL is incredibly proud of this fantastic achievement and wishes Ariana every success as she continues her England journey.
