Parents - you are SO important.

You shape the beliefs, habits, and future of your kids every day.

I’m so grateful to have had inspiring parents.

(Even though my dad was not one to be crossed!)

My dad was half Iraqi, half Kurdish. My mother was half English, half Scottish.

They met in Sheffield, started a family then moved to Iraq.

After the gulf war, they moved the family back to the UK when I was 9.

They taught me so much about life that I still value to this day.

1. Work hard, never settle. My dad was a Paediatrician and even started his own TV show giving health advice for parents. He was my professional role model.
2. The value of money. We didn't have pocket money growing up, the concept of ‘free’ money was so strange. I appreciate that now as I’ve learned the value of earning your keep.
3. A strong base of faith. I have struggled with finding the right balance with my faith, especially after 9/11 and being on the receiving end of racism. But my faith gives me strength and peace, and I’m grateful to my parents for teaching me this.
4. The beauty of nature. My parents always appreciated fresh air, greenery and rolling hills. I have always had a connection to nature that they instilled in me. Nature is my happy place.
5. Resilience & determination. Being an immigrant is not easy. The language, the cultural difference, always feeling ‘different’. But my parents showed resilience, worked hard and made it work.
6. Loyalty over everything. Families have ups and downs, but are always there for each other. We have had our struggles, but we have always shown up. I aim to provide a safe space and a home for my 4 children and husband.

Family is so incredibly important to a child’s sense of identity.

I am grateful to my parents for the things they taught me 🙏

It was my dentist that noticed I was on the verge of burnout.

The same filling, replaced 3 times in a year.

I was grinding my teeth.

I started having panic attacks soon after.

There was so much going on personally and professionally at that time.

I couldn’t see it, but my body told me.

I hit rock bottom after the worst panic attack.

It was maternity leave that saved me.

Time to reflect and just BE.

What was all this rushing for?

I committed to building a better life for myself and my family.

To NEVER go back to that dark place.

Sometimes we are so caught up in our lives we can’t see the slippery slope.

But your body always knows.

Nothing is more precious than your health.

Agree?

At Loom Psychology, words matter.
Because the right words can shape a child’s future.

Just as a traditional loom carefully weaves threads into fabric, Loom Psychology weaves together:
👉 evidence
👉 insight
👉 expert psychological advice
Supporting statutory assessment processes and EHCP applications.

Each assessment brings together:
👉 observations
👉 professional expertise
👉 multidisciplinary understanding
Creating clear, defensible advice that supports informed decision making around a child’s educational journey.

From Early Years assessments to supporting complex needs, Loom helps ensure that every child’s story is understood and that the right support is put in place at the right time.

Because when expert psychological insight is woven carefully into the process, it becomes part of a much bigger tapestry:

👉 a child’s opportunity to thrive in education.

I’m Dr Reem Ameri and I work with Local Authorities, parents and education professionals nationwide, providing high quality virtual psychological assessments designed to help navigate statutory requirements efficiently while meeting key deadlines.

I absolutely love my job as an Educational Psychologist.

I get to positively impact the lives of children and families.

One thing that strikes me as I work with these wonderful young people is this age of hyper growth we live in.

Everything seems to be changing so fast.

Sometimes, it’s confusing for them.
It’s a challenge.

As parents and carers we are here to tell them - it’s going to be ok.

There are universal truths that stay the same, no matter what’s going on.

This is what I’ve learned:

🤖 Artificial Intelligence will never replace Emotional Intelligence. I heard this from a brilliant entrepreneur and I couldn't agree more. As tech-forward as we get, we still need the human qualities of empathy, love, support. Maybe more now than ever.

🙏 The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members. Gandhi said this. It reminds us to be kind, care for the vulnerable, and focus on acts of care and kindness.

💬 The stories we tell have power. Our internal narrative shapes our internal world, and - guess what? We have the power to guide that narrative. I work with children to retell their painful stories, to transform their perception to one of hope and a bright future.

🧘🏻‍♀️ Nothing is more important than your wellbeing. Your mental and emotional health is to be cared for at all costs. Because you're worth it. Children are often taught to be outwardly focused, competitive, they are judged on their results. This can cause them to stop listening to themselves. As parents and carers we need to help them nurture their self love and care.

We live in an age where anything is possible.

But there are some things that will never change.

We often think children need fixing.

More often, they need interpreting.

When we understand what behaviour is communicating, everything shifts. At home, in their educational setting and for the child themselves.

Early psychological insight doesn’t label a child.
It guides the adults around them.

Here’s an early years teacher explaining the difference that made.
