Guiseley School

On Sunday 7th June, a keen team of young Guiseley School orienteers competed against the best junior orienteers in the region, and came away with their first ever overall team bronze.

Temple Newsam played host to the Yorkshire and Humberside Schools Orienteering Championships, which saw Year 7 students Theo B and Felix M come home in 7th and 8th positions on their course.

In the Year 8 events there were podium places for Alethea C (first), Penny P-H (second) and Charlie A (third). In addition to the individual successes GHS won the Year 8 team awards for both Girls and Boys. A superb debut for Emily T (7th) secured the Y8G victory. Keir R (4th) and George R (7th) made up the Y8 Boys team to ensure that GHS were double team winners

The team is now looking forward to two British Schools races in autumn term, culminating in the national championships in Heaton Park, Manchester on Sunday 15th November.

The Guiseley School auditorium was the place to be on Thursday as our Year 9 students dove into an immersive Alternative Work Experience event! Led by the brilliant Courtney Ward from Equans, students tackled the fast-growing worlds of home retrofit, sustainable architecture, and Corporate Social Responsibility.

Our young innovators stepped up as professionals across three intense challenges:

The Retrofit Advisors: Advising real-world clients on energy-efficient home upgrades.

Design & Build Coordinators: Drafting and pitching sustainable housing site plans for Guiseley.

The Social Value Challenge: Designing community plans to support local charities and spaces.

Courtney was incredibly impressed by the maturity, creativity, and teamwork on display, calling our students an absolute credit to themselves and the school!

A massive thank you to Courtney Ward and Equans for inspiring our students with a vital glimpse into the careers shaping our future.

We rounded off our third and final day in Cologne with a brilliant visit to Phantasialand. The students had a great time and made memories that will last a long time. Later that evening, we wound down with card games, quizzes, table tennis and the first match of the Men’s World Cup.

Day 2 in Cologne was packed with fun and adventure.

We started the day at the Haus der Geschichte, where students explored Germany's modern history. Our next stop was Bonn for some exploring, sightseeing and to try out more local cuisine.

In the afternoon, the group headed to the Olympic Museum, where there were lots of opportunities to engage with interactive experiences. To round off the evening, we went to the bowling alley where the competitive juices started to flow.

Guiseley School is hosting a massive Art and Photography Exhibition in our Auditorium showcasing stunning work from our KS3, GCSE, and A Level students, alongside work from our Design Technology and Textiles Departments. On Opening Night there will also be a Music Showcase for all to attend in our Activity Studio.

We are kicking things off with an amazing night of live music! Come along for:
* A live jazz band performing downstairs in the exhibition.
* A live Music Showcase upstairs in the Activity Studio, running from 5-6PM. (Music performances are exclusive to opening night!)

GENERAL EXHIBITION: Friday 26 June – Tuesday 30 June (Students Only)
The art gallery remains open for students to browse and enjoy at their own pace.

WEEKEND VIEWING: Saturday 27 June (10:00 AM – 2:00 PM)

Year 8 German students are having a brilliant start to their week in Cologne!

They kicked things off with a visit to the BayArena, home of Bayer Leverkusen, before heading in to the city centre to shop and sample some German cuisine. In the afternoon, they enjoyed a sweet stop at the Chocolate Museum.

Evening fun included cricket, football, card games, and a competitive quiz. There were smiles all round.
