Welcome to Whitkirk Primary School! We know that for our children to be successful in the future, they need to develop as effective learners.

We are committed to providing the best educational experience for every child on our roll and we do this by creating an exciting and engaging curriculum that captures the children’s interests and promotes an enthusiastic and active approach to learning. They need to be curious and skilled at solving problems. They should be able to use ICT as a useful tool in their learning, as technology is not just a part of their future but very much a part of our present too.

Kickstart Kamps is coming to Whitkirk this summer! ☀️
It’s run by the amazing team at KICKS, and we love working with them throughout the year — so supporting their summer programme at our site made perfect sense. Kickstart Kamps

Today, Miss Emery was delighted to host the first Yorkshire and Humber Reception Network at Whitkirk, focusing on effective transition into Reception.

It was a valuable opportunity to share how we plan transition at Whitkirk for our wonderful Whitkirk families and children, ensuring every child feels secure, supported and ready for the start of their school journey.

Colleagues from across Leeds and Wakefield joined us for rich discussion, shared practice and reflection, including alignment with the DfE Getting Ready for Reception guidance.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed so thoughtfully! Hope to see you at the next session!

All details for the upcoming sessions can be found on our website

Miss Quarmby and Miss Emery have taken Phonics Fred on an adventure to London today for the RISE Reception Network conference. He’s been helping us gather ideas, inspiration and best practice so we can make the very most of our role as a Lead Reception School for Leeds and Wakefield.

Whitkirk Primary School was proud to host the Leeds Debating Competition last week – and we’re absolutely thrilled to share that, out of more than fifty teams, Whitkirk has made it through to the grand final at Leeds City Hall this summer! This is a huge milestone in our three‑year oracy journey, led by Miss Dougan (English Lead), whose hard work has transformed classrooms into vibrant spaces full of confident voices and collaboration from Pre‑School upwards. This achievement reflects just how far our oracy culture has come – we can’t wait for the final!

🌍 Proud of our Year 5 climate champions! 🌍
Last week, four of our Year 5 pupils represented our school at a Climate Change Eco‑Conference at Leeds Civic Hall — and they did us proud!
The children took part in inspiring workshops on climate action, from climate justice and protecting bees to learning how schools are already making a difference. They asked thoughtful questions, shared ideas confidently and worked together to create their own Climate Action Plans.
Miss Odor, Co‑Curriculum Lead, said:
“The pupils were fantastic ambassadors. They were curious, engaged and genuinely passionate about making a difference. It was wonderful to see how excited they were to bring ideas back into school.”
We’re incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, confidence and commitment to protecting our planet. A huge well done to our Year 5 representatives! 🌱💚

🔥A Very Exciting Visit from Our Local Firefighters! 🚒

Today our Reception and Pre- School children were thrilled to welcome the amazing firefighters from Killingbeck Fire Station!

The children really enjoyed learning all about how firefighters help to keep us safe. They explored the fire engine, discovered the water hose and the jaws of life and finally listened to the sirens and the bullhorn!

A huge thank you to the White Watch Team at Killingbeck Firestation for such a wonderful visit!
