Soaking in all the mini moments from this week that have reminded me why I do what I do.

Feeling grateful to have the opportunity to share stories that encourage children to be bold and confident, to feel safe enough to share ideas and even just talk of the everyday (Laura look at my new shoes!).

Feeling grateful that preschoolers I first met 2 years ago are now acting out our stories with the most amazing recall of events and all the thoughts and feelings of the characters they’ve become.

Feeling grateful that our community sees how valuable (and enjoyable) joining generations is and wants to share in that experience.

Feeling grateful that families keep returning to share their Sunday mornings with me month after month.

Feeling grateful.

Thank you ❤️

What?!? No book? 📚😲

Let me start by saying I love books. As an adult, one of my favourite things to do is read (or listen… audio books are my thing too). I just love stories. What I love most however is how personal the imagery in our minds can be when we’re immersed in a story. When you can really “picture it” in your minds eye, that to me is the sign of a great story.

But before literacy, how do we give children that same experience?

When children listen to a story being told orally rather than read from a page with pictures, they can create the characters, scenery and adventures in their own minds too.

They’re also developing key pre-literacy skills like listening, vocabulary, comprehension and imagination.

Books will always have a special place in a child’s literacy journey. Oral storytelling can add another rich way for children to experience stories promoting a continued love of books and stories in the future.

What’s not to love about that? ❤️

Get n touch if you’d like to learn more.

Help an indecisive overthinker out!

I spend FAR too long choosing a story for my Sunday sessions I actually drive myself mad. So this time I thought I’d ask you to help!

Our next Sunday Family Story Play is on June the 14th in Pudsey so which story do you think I should do?

Thanks 🙏

Ps…I realised after recording this it’s not officially summer until the 21st of June it just feels like it…
Pps…as we’re in Yorkshire I fully expect it to be rainy and feel like winter again by the 14th June but what better excuse to come and share a sunny little story with me.

I am looking for a Part-time Storyteller/ Drama Practitioner.

Experience of working with children, drama or education would be advantageous but not essential as full training and ongoing support will be provided.

I’d love to find someone who will work with me as Debutots grows across Leeds starting with a small number of classes that increases as required and forms a solid team. 💙

CREATIVITY FIRST!

I worked in airline crew rostering for 18 years. Assigning crew members to flights, allocating days off, creating shift patterns and ensuring all duties were covered.

Over the years we introduced automation, systems and ways of working “smarter not harder”. But the one thing that ALWAYS ultimately solved the trickiest of problems was… human creativity and human empathy.

It might not have been a brush on canvas but it was visualising a solution, thinking outside the box, understanding the impact on those it affected and adding the missing human connection. Those were the skills that ultimately won.

My love for creativity is what led me to Debutots. A space where I can be more creative and in turn nurture creativity and empathy in children through interactive storytelling and drama.

In an automated AI world it’s more important than ever. Creativity and connection first. ❤️

Do you agree?

We had a gorgeous session on Thursday at Alexandra Court Residential Home. It was the first time the Reception children from St Chad's CE Primary School had visited and the joy they brought was so lovely!

Thank you for having us! ❤️❤️
