Performance is not Learning: The Human–AI Interaction Challenge
Deaf Education at Leeds is really lucky to live in the School of Education and be part of a large network of education colleagues with access to a huge range of research and information. These opportunities help us reflect on our practice, stay informed, and make sure we’re supporting learners to stay independent and capable in an increasingly AI-rich world.
If you're free tomorrow, Tuesday 19th May 11:00-12:30 (45-minute talk and 30-minute Q&A), then this seminar is definitely worth joining if you can!
Professor Dragan Gašević (Monash University, Australia) is joining us online to share his insights on the current challenges of AI, learning, and the quality of learning.
AI is helping us work faster and more efficiently… but here’s the key question: is it actually helping us learn? 👀
This session explores that tension - how AI can boost performance while potentially reducing the skills and knowledge we need in the long run. It looks at things like over reliance, metacognition (how we think about our thinking), and what good human-AI collaboration really looks like.
Expect:
🔹 Real research insights into AI and learning
🔹 Different patterns of how people interact with AI
🔹 Ideas for avoiding “overreliance” and building real capability
🔹 Food for thought around teaching, learning environments, and assessment
