Our pre-schoolers enjoyed a wonderful outing around the village of Filkins, exploring and discovering some of the local landmarks!

They looked at:
Different types of houses
The colours and numbers on doors
The village shop
The church, including its beautiful windows and doors
The village hall
The post box
The telephone box
The bowls club

It was a lovely opportunity to explore the local community, discuss what they could see and spot numbers, colours, shapes and familiar places along the way.

This week, our pre-schoolers have been developing their communication and language skills through lots of fun and engaging activities!

They particularly enjoyed playing I Spy, taking turns to choose an item from the centre and describe it for their friends to guess. This encouraged the children to use descriptive language, listen carefully to one another and build their confidence when speaking.

The Oak Room team have also used their display board to showcase what the children have been learning and the activities they have enjoyed taking part in. They have also been practising different their facial expressions, which are shown

This week, our pre-schoolers have been exploring by designing and making their very own watches! ⌚✨

The children began by drawing around a cube to create their watch face before using visual aids to carefully copy the numbers, choosing to make either a digital or an analogue watch. They then designed and decorated their own watch straps before attaching them to their watch faces.

Everyone was so proud of their wonderful creations and loved wearing their handmade watches throughout the day! 🌟

This week, the pre-schoolers have been exploring the exciting topic of .

As part of their learning, the staff set up a fun agility course featuring a rocket launcher. The children stamped onto a balance beam, which launched a rocket high into the air. Working in pairs, they took turns launching the rocket and tried to catch it before it landed on the ground.

This exciting activity encouraged teamwork, turn-taking, coordination, and gross motor skills, while sparking the children's curiosity about science and how rockets work. The children had lots of fun experimenting, cheering each other on, and predicting how high the rocket would fly.

On Tuesday this week, the children in Oak Room celebrated the end of a wonderful year and their graduation with an exciting Colour Run! The children eagerly ran around a colourful course, laughing and having fun as they were covered in bright bursts of coloured powder along the way.

The Colour Run was a fantastic way to celebrate everything the children have achieved during their time in Oak Room. They showed so much enthusiasm, confidence, and determination, and it was wonderful to see them enjoying this special milestone together.

We are incredibly proud of each and every one of our graduates and all they have accomplished. We wish them every success and happiness as they begin their next exciting adventure at school. Congratulations, Oak Room – what a fantastic way to end the term!
