Just finished Transform Trauma Oxford (joining online this year), and one moment from a panel discussion has stayed with me.
Bessel van der Kolk, author of The Body Keeps the Score, talked about how much our field forgets between generations. He reminded us that hypnosis was the treatment of choice for trauma for around a hundred years before it largely disappeared, and he expects it to return.
As a hypnotherapist, that was quite something to hear from one of the leading voices in trauma work.
What struck me more, though, was how often the panel came back to one idea: no technique does the work on its own. The relationship matters, and so does going at the client's pace. Trust can be hard to come by when the people who hurt you were the ones meant to care for you.
Janina Fisher left us with a thought I'm carrying into my practice. The body was designed for survival, not destruction, so have faith in it. It got you this far. 🌿
