A broad range of musical services offered, from GCSE and A Level Music tutoring, instrumental and vocal tuition, and bespoke compositions or musical arrangements. A genuine musical all-rounder, who began by studying horn at Chets and RNCM before working as a composer and arranger, vocal coach, MD and, for the past twenty years as a music teacher at three top North West independent schools: Birkenh

ead School, The King's School, Chester, and Stockport Grammar School. The main focus of my classroom teaching career has been enabling students to unlock the mysteries of composition and discover their own voice as they navigate the requirements of GCSE and A Level but, in equal measure, composing is a strand of musical understanding accessible to all and I hope to be able to help as wide a range of musicians as possible. In addition to my work in schools, I am a specialist in the field of the wind orchestra, having founded the Manchester University Wind Orchestra and am a Past Chairman of the British Association of Symphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles (BASBWE). For many years I was Musical Director of Sing Live North West, Principal Conductor of the Warrington Youth Orchestra and I am currently Musical Director of the Wirral Symphonic Wind Band, whilst also teaching, tutoring, and working on bespoke composition and arranging projects for a diverse range of clients.

🎶 One-to-One Music Tuition – Limited Spaces Available! 🎶

I’m delighted to be opening up a small number of new one-to-one tuition slots for enthusiastic young musicians 🎼

My current crop of pupils includes singers, pianists, and brass players, and I’m also working closely with several GCSE and A Level musicians, helping them to:
✨ strengthen their compositions
✨ develop musical ideas with confidence
✨ prepare thoroughly for their listening and appraising exams

I’m an experienced educator and composer, having spent over two decades teaching in three of the North West’s top independent schools, and I’m passionate about helping students find their musical voice — whether that’s through performance, composition, or deeper musical understanding.

Thoroughly looking forward to conducting this wonderful new addition to the wind band literature once again with the Wirral Symphonic Wind Band on 8 November at Christ Church Higher Bebington.

A heartfelt legacy from Beryl Williams – a cherished supporter and friend of the Wirral Symphonic Wind Band – has blossomed into something truly special: a musical tribute to love, friendship, and place. Her generous gift enabled the band to commission Dr. Martin Ellerby to create Wirral Dances, a vibrant new work inspired by the beauty and folklore of our peninsula.
