There’s nothing more challenging than standing in front of 30 students, knowing that each one has the potential to soar, if only you had just a little more 1:1 time with them.

The curriculum is so tightly packed with expectations that every moment of the day is scheduled to the second. That leaves little space for the creativity, flexibility, and genuine connection we so passionately describe in our teaching interviews.

Tutoring changes that. It gives me the freedom to slow down, play games, use multisensory play, target questions, and uncover where each learner’s challenges and strengths lie.

That’s why I tutor. It allows me to deliver the personal, responsive, and empowering education I believe every child deserves.

Maybe one day, mainstream education will evolve to meet the needs of our ever-changing society.
Until then, I’ll keep tutoring.

This one might come as a surprise...
..dice. 🎲

From this one tiny cube comes endless possibilities to make learning more engaging and fun!

Here are a few of the recent activities I have used dice for;
🎲 Addition games with a learner who was finding it difficult to add mentally - dice patterns make excellent visualisation tools!
🎲 inspired creative sentences - roll a character, roll an action, roll a prop. This inspired creativity, created space to talk about punctuation and sentence structure, and, of course, included a lot of laughter!
🎲 Phonics and reading - I am a huge fan of ' roll and read activities and board games to reinforce the phonics sounds we have been working on.
🎲 Place value - roll a digit for each place value and then use the number to compare, order, find more/less, add or subtract, round, or partition. (I also have D10s, D100s, and D1000s for teaching place value!)

🎲 I've also recently used dice to teach multiplication, place value, probability, vocabulary, reasoning, punctuation...the list is endless!

Effective teaching is making learning feel like play, and I think I could make a dice game out of just about anything!
