First week of the new block ✅

Lovely to meet lots of new faces last night at our French and Spanish taster sessions, and delighted to see so many people returning for continuers courses.

Excellent work all round, with the beginners dipping their toes into Spanish pronunciations and introductions. I think we might have a few people adopting Spanish nicknames after learning how to spell our names using the Spanish alphabet 😂

Our Beyond Beginners are back with a bang and have taken to creating spontaneous sentences like ducks to water 🦆 💧

The wait is over! Our new 8-week block at Lanark Languages kicks off tomorrow, Tuesday, April 21st. We are so excited to get back into the hall at St Nicholas’ and get started!

Please note the schedule below for our French and Spanish groups.

TUESDAY SCHEDULE (April 21st)

Beginners Buenos Días (Spanish Level 1)
Perfect for those starting from scratch or with very little experience. We have a couple of last-minute spots if you’d like to join the fiesta!
🕰️ 7:10 PM – 8:10 PM
Beyond Bonjour (French Level 2)
Ready for our "Social Deep-Dive"? We'll be bridging the gap to more fluid conversation tonight.

Beyond Buenos Días (Spanish Level 2)
Building confidence, mastering those connectors, and moving past the basics.

What to bring:
Just yourselves and a willingness to get stuck in! We provide all the handouts (and the biscuits).

Note: Our Beginners French session is no longer running this block, but we look forward to seeing all our other groups tomorrow evening!

Progress, Laughter, and Chatting at Week 8! 🥂

What a fab night! It is officially Week 8, and the social theme really brought out the best in everyone.
We focused on mastering the Hotel Bar introduction and moving away from the scripts, using sentence builders to create conversations. Seeing both the Spanish and French groups move away from simple phrases was a massive highlight for us. From hearing about firewood businesses in Spanish to microbiologists and piano tuners in French, the level of detail you are all adding to your conversations now is simply amazing.

There were plenty of laughs during our "Find Someone Who..." chatting tasks - it’s clear that the confidence in the room has skyrocketed since Week 1. You should all be very proud of the progress you’ve made; seeing you interact so naturally in a second language is exactly why we do this!

As we wrap up this block, we are getting everything ready for our next courses. We have new groups starting this April, perfect for those looking to start their French or Spanish journey or take the next step.

🌍 LANARK LANGUAGES: FROM SURVIVAL TO SOCIAL - NEW CLASSES COMING SOON🍷

A massive "Félicitations" and "¡Enhorabuena!" to our current Beginners! 🥂 We are heading into Week 8: The Social this Tuesday, and it’s been incredible to see everyone go from "Zero" to "Bar-ready" over the last two months.
But the journey doesn’t stop here! Whether you’re starting from scratch or ready to take the next step, our New 8-Week Block is now open for registration!
📅 Dates: April 21st – June 9th

🇫🇷 FRENCH (Tuesdays)
• Beginners' Bonjour (6:00pm – 7:00pm): Perfect for total beginners. Learn to navigate the market, the menu, and the hotel with confidence.
• Beyond Bonjour (7:10pm – 8:10pm): For those who know the basics but want to build natural, spontaneous sentences and move past "phrasebook" French.
🇪🇸 SPANISH (Tuesdays)
• Beginners' Buenos Días (6:00pm – 7:00pm): Start your Spanish journey here! Everything you need for a stress-free holiday.
• Beyond Buenos Días (7:10pm – 8:10pm): Take your Spanish further. We focus on conversational flow, opinions, and "real-world" chat.

We’ve officially hit week 6 in our French and Spanish blocks! It’s been a productive couple of weeks, and it’s great to see everyone’s confidence growing as we move into the more practical travel topics.
In the French class, we had a go at navigating the train station. We’ve been working on the 24-hour clock - which definitely takes a bit of concentration - and making sure we can handle the ticket office without any stress. Everyone was really sharp at spotting mistakes in the "ticket agent" roleplay, making sure they got the right tickets for the right platforms! 🚉🇫🇷

The Spanish group has been just as focused, working on getting from A to B. We’ve been practicing how to give and follow directions, as well as the essentials for booking travel. It’s a lot to take in, but there’s a lovely atmosphere in the room and everyone is doing a brilliant job of supporting each other as we master those tricky pronunciations. 🇪🇸🗺️

It’s been a pleasure to see the progress from Week 1. We’re moving away from the basics and starting to really put everything together.
Next week, we’re checking into the hotel - learning how to get the Wi-Fi sorted, how to ask for more towels, and more importantly - where the bar is! 🏨🚿 🍻

Our Lanark Linguists are officially getting Travel Ready! 🇫🇷🥖🇪🇸🍷

We haven't posted in a couple of weeks, but that’s because the French and Spanish crews have been incredibly busy mastering the art of survival!
We are officially past the halfway mark of this block, and the progress from Week 1 is massive. The "fear" of speaking is well and truly left on the platform. 🚉🚫
Here’s what our classes have been conquering:
The French Crew: From Brasseries to Billet Guichets! 🇫🇷🍷🚂
Over the last two weeks, we didn't just order food; we navigated the entire restaurant experience (from the scary reservation phonecall to ordering and paying!). From perfecting our shellfish pronunciation (Des crevettes vs Des moules 🦐) to asking for the steak cooked just right (Saignant, s'il vous plaît!), nobody went hungry.
But this week, we are "en route!" We are hitting the station to tackle the high-stakes logistics of:
✅ Buying a Billet aller-retour without the stress.
✅ Mastering the 24-hour clock (because missing an 8:00 PM train isn't fun!).
✅ Decoding the Departure Board to find our platform (Le quai). ⏰🗺️

The Spanish Crew: Tapas, Prawns & No Gluten! 🇪🇸🍤🚫
Our Spanish group has been focusing hard on shared dining - the very best part of Hispanic culture. We moved past basic food vocabulary to ordering whole tables of Tapas.
The highlight was perfecting the essential Allergy Request with the "Infinite Table" memory game. Seeing everyone flawlessly look out for their classmates by checking if the Tortilla contained gluten (¿Contiene gluten?) was fantastic. They can now comfortably order Jamón Ibérico and Patatas Bravas without a second thought. 🥔👏
Next up for Spanish? You guessed it... navigation and travel, Spanish style!
Seeing everyone lose their speaking fear is what it’s all about.
