🎶 Orkney Islands Council Instrumental Music Service - Scottish Young Musicians Solo Performer Competition 🎶

Results:

⭐ Winner: Joel (piano)
⭐ Runners-up: Katie (voice) and Charlie (guitar)
⭐ Highly Commended: Christopher (piano) and Ava (piano)

Joel will represent Orkney at the National Final held at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in May - we wish him the best of luck!

Bravo to every performer that took to the stage at the Festival for Young Musicians yesterday and today. 👏

Adjudicator Jack Tait Westwell has given helpful feedback over the weekend and now has the difficult job of deciding who to award the solo Primary and Scottish Young Musicians trophies to. We hope to announce the winners on Monday. 🤞

INSTRUMENTAL APPLICATION OUTCOME 🎺🎷🎻

If your child/children applied for instrumental lessons and have been part of the taster sessions in primary schools please keep an eye out over the next few days for an email from [email protected] with the outcome of the application(s).

We have received over 190 applications which is absolutely amazing, but this means it will take us a wee while to send out individual emails! If you have not received an email by end of of Tuesday please contact us.

This photogenic bunch are looking forward to performing in the Instrumental Course Concert at the Picky Centre this evening.

Catch them, and their string-playing friends, at 7:30pm. Tickets available on the door priced £6 for adults and free for under-18s. Running time approx. 1 hour.

Refreshments available from the vending machines or bring your own.

INSTRUMENTAL COURSE

We have extended the closing date for our annual 4-day instrumental course to 1pm on Monday 8th September as we understand some emails haven't reached parents/carers.

This year, the course is for string and brass pupils working towards ABRSM Grade 2 or above, which is generally Primary 7 to Secondary 3, but may include some Primary 6 pupils.

Invite letters were emailed out on 28th August from [email protected], and resent from [email protected] yesterday.

There will be further ensemble opportunities later in the academic year for woodwind pupils of all ages and younger string pupils.

A reminder that applications for pupils aged P4 to S2 who are interested in beginning tuition on a brass, bowed string or woodwind instrument close on Sunday evening.

We are especially keen to hear from P6, P7 and S1 pupils that might be interested in trying flute, saxophone, bassoon or any of our bigger instruments.
