🌞 Summer Reading Challenge! 📚

If you're hearing the familiar phrase "I'm bored!" this summer 😅, we've got just the thing!

We've attached our Summer Reading Challenge for students to have a go at over the holidays. It's a fun way to keep their minds active, discover new books, and maybe even find a new favourite author.

There's no pressure—just a little challenge for anyone who fancies giving it a go. We can't wait to hear all about the books they've enjoyed when we see them in September!

✈️ Fantastic Day at the East Midlands Aerozone

Our students had a fantastic trip to the East Midlands Aerozone today! 🌟 They learned all about MAG (Manchester Airports Group)—which includes East Midlands, Stansted, and Manchester airports—discovering how airports generate money and exploring the wide variety of careers available.

​A highlight was hearing directly from an airport security officer, followed by a trip over to the departure lounge (though no flights out for us this time!).

🩸 Skills that save lives! 🩸

​We are incredibly proud of our fantastic staff and students who recently stepped up to complete the citizenAID "Stop the Bleed" training session!

​In an emergency, every second counts. Our IGNITE team gained hands-on, invaluable knowledge to react quickly, effectively, and save lives when it matters most.

​🔑 What was covered:

​Identifying life-threatening bleeding.

​Applying direct pressure and tourniquets.

​Staying calm and structured under pressure using the citizenAID framework.

​A massive thank you to Stewart and Cllr Dale for empowering our IGNITE community with the confidence to make a difference.

A huge thank you to Cllr Dale Grounds for the invitation to the Armed Forces Day flag-raising ceremony.
​It was a privilege to stand alongside members of our community to show support for our veterans, service men and women, and their families.

Occasions like this are a poignant reminder of the dedication and sacrifices made by our Armed Forces. We were honoured to attend!

Our students had a visit from the Ashfield Fire Service! 🧑‍🚒 Not only did we get an exclusive tour of the fire truck (and yes, we even got to sit inside!), but we also learned so much about what it takes to be a real-life hero.

​Here’s a quick recap of our safety-filled day:

​Behind the Scenes: The crew chatted with us about their daily roles and the wide variety of incidents they respond to.

​Safety First: We got crucial tips on general fire safety, risk awareness, and exactly what to do in a fire emergency.

​Road Safety Awareness: Since it was Road Safety Week, they shared some invaluable tips on how to stay safe near roads.

​Teacher in Training: A huge shoutout to our maths teacher Krisha, who bravely tried on the full firefighter gear! Let’s just say... that equipment is heavy!

​A massive thank you to Ashfield Fire Station for keeping our community safe and inspiring our students!

🤝⚽ Meet the Team: Nathan, Student Support Mentor & Sports Lead

​Sometimes the biggest hurdles to learning aren't academic—they’re personal. Nathan is here to help our students navigate those challenges, often using the power of sport to do it!

​Nathan wears two incredibly important hats here at IGNITE. As our Student Support Mentor, he provides a consistent, grounded presence for our young people, helping them build resilience, manage emotions, and develop positive social skills.

​He is also our Sports Lead! Nathan knows that physical activity is a brilliant tool for boosting mental health, building teamwork, and burning off energy. Whether he’s running a sports session or having a 1-to-1 catch-up after a tough day, Nathan’s energy and mentorship are key to the supportive environment we've built here at IGNITE. 🌟

We were absolutely honored to welcome the incredible Chantel Brooks to our provision recently to deliver a series of powerful resilience workshops for our students! 🧠💪

​Chantel brings a wealth of experience, passion, and insight. She connected brilliantly with our students, equipping them with practical tools to navigate life's challenges, bounce back, and thrive. Our students did a great job engaging with the sessions and walked away with some brilliant tools to help them feel confident and empowered.

​We were also incredibly lucky to be gifted a signed copy of Chantel's brand-new book, 'The Resilient Generation', which we can't wait to read and bring even more ideas into our daily support for the children. 📚

​A huge thank you to Chantel—we already look forward to welcoming her back in the future! 😊👏

We are incredibly proud of our students this week! They recently participated in a series of vital workshops delivered by Gabby from Leaders Unlocked.
​The sessions tackled some of the most pressing challenges facing young people today, including:

​Knife Crime awareness 🚫
​County Lines & exploitation 🛡️
​Online Safety 💻

​These can be heavy and difficult topics to navigate, but our students rose to the occasion with incredible maturity and insight.
​Gabby had some wonderful feedback for the group, noting how conscientious and engaged they were throughout. She described them as "lovely young lads" who behaved exceptionally well, making the sessions a pleasure to deliver.
​As a provision, seeing our students engage so thoughtfully with these important issues makes us immensely proud. They didn't just listen—they showed true character and respect.
