The Centre for Human Rights Practice brings together KU academic staff and students as well as external organisations.
The Centre for Human Rights Practice brings together KU academic staff and students as well as external organisations working collaboratively on developing and sharing understanding and insight on human rights practice, impact, methods and values. Working on the basis of a ‘Think Global, Act Local’ approach, the Centre aims to create depth and sustainability to local partnerships across the Royal
Borough of Kingston, London and beyond. In the longer term it aims to establish itself as one of the key hubs of information and agenda setting in the field of human rights and social justice in the UK. Scoop and content:
To create the “Go To” place for information, evidence and insight on human rights practice, methods and their impact;
· To create a growing – and increasingly international – collaborative interface between the University and human rights and social justice practitioners and their organisations;
· To secure national recognition for our public education and engagement work delivered through free to access on-line resources;
· To provide for students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) with direct “hands-on” experience of human rights practice through their association with the Centre’s programmes;
· To enhance students’ skills, values, and confidence, demonstrably providing them with exposure to the myriad skills and experiences necessary to function effectively as a human rights and social justice “change-agent”;
· To provide a platform for our Events and Outreach programme, where students will have the opportunity to be involved with supporting, conceptualising and also delivering human rights work in a way which is fully integrated with the course.
